How to get the most out of your time with blog commenting

By Typhoon On Under Blog Promotion, Blogging Tips & Business Tips

When I market online I like to practice simple but effective principles that I refer to as “smart marketing.”  In short, I like to optimize the most out of my time and also implement marketing methods that will give me the best return off of my very important investment of time.

So, when you comment on blogs with the follow attribute I would also recommend commenting on the most popular blogs, or in other words the blogs that are the most trafficked like techcrunch, mashable, shoemoney etc.

There are a couple of key factors that you should be searching for when commenting on blogs:

1. Alexa rank – Generally the lower this number is the more traffic the site is getting. This can be fabricated with a couple of black hat tips so I won’t tell you how to do it but would recommend showing this factor some importance.

2. Page rank – The higher the number this is the better as well. A higher page rank website will usually lead to a fresh 25 website being quickly eaten up (indexed) within the search engines.

3. Number of comments – The above two options can be fabricated a bit, but generally if a blog has a lot of comments then it will be generating a good amount of traffic and they have good community. Also, blogs that have a lot of comments are excellent for search engines because search engines LOVE content. Remember, it is their primary source of nourishment and if they do not get it then they will not be well nourished so they in return will not like the site very much! So in short, a blog with lots of comments should be getting more traffic.

4. How active – I would recommend making a list blogs within your market that contains the follow attribute anywhere which rewards the commentators and sort them out in an excel sheet by their details. This will also make checking for links easier later in the future as well. Usually, highly trafficked blogs will be updated more often so staying up to date with them is a good idea.

You can also check the Google cache of a website to see the last time that the Google bots have visited a site. The more often that the bots visit the sites is another good indicator that it is getting a decent chunk of traffic. In addition it always helps to be the first person to comment on a trafficked blog because your site will be in a better position to gather more presence.

I hope this article will benefit you a lot while commenting on blogs and will let you get a good amount of traffic and backlinks for your blog.

    This one is nice to read. But the crowd now will really go to the top blogs than to the newbie blogs I think.

    Content is the king always. So if you like it, then you should comment to say your appreciation.

    I am appreciating you man..

    Great tips for getting the most out of comments. When I was first starting my blog I would only comment on blogs that were do follow. Now that I have achieved a decent page rank, I commnet on blogs that I read and like regardless of if they are do follow or not. I really love blogs with CommentLuv though, I just install it on my blog a month ago and comments doubled in that time frame.

    Thanks for a great article. Commenting is a wonderful process, both to recognize good articles and to help with back links. I am working with new baby boomer entrepreneurs who are starting businesses after retiring from their first career. They will find this article and others you have posted on blogging to be a real help in establishing themselves and their reputations whether they have on-line businesses or off.

    I routinely ignore Alexa ranking because it is a very meaningless statistic— unless you reside in India!!! (LOL)

      Ya, Alexa is not sooo much important but having a look at it also doesn’t spoils anything.
      But yes I do agree that Alexa rankings can not be believed that much because they are mostly based on If a visitor have an Alexa Toolbar installed in their computer(and then thy calculate something)…

      If they have changed their algorithms in their recent website update(as I told on the blog few days back) then we might see proper rankings of websites.

      @akira07, akira commenting for
      backlink is not too good because some say dofollow comment is good
      but overdo it harm you on google not pagerank wise but on ranking
      factor.

        @rky, But how about if i only commenting on relevant blog and my comment is relevant with the blog post. Will google still think it’s spam/linkfarm?

          @akira07,
          I am not sure on that point but i see that when you comment
          on smartbloggerz you leave your blog last post on it everytime .
          i think you place your link when your blog post is relevant.

          @Akira07 no chance. Link farms are different. they have only links and search engines r too clever to find which are link farms and which are not

            So, commenting is safe way to get a link? I’m agree about it, but as i said on other article, the “google sandbox” things is for real. Need to learn about it deeply.

        of course. in all cases over doing it can cause u harm. why not have a habit of dropping a comment of those do follow blogs daily when they release a new post. That makes ur back links increase consistentally and google can do nothing to u :)

    Commenting as investment is unique idea. All we’re talking here is called as blog walking. For now, i’m commenting on some blog included this blog, but i’m not use it for marketing anything yet. Even like that, i still feel the benefit (in other mean, return of investment already reached) such friend, network, etc…
