Which Search Engine you choose in blind search test?

make money online

As we know that, whenever we want to search something on web, the word “Google.com” hits into our mind. Yes, it’s true that Google has become the first choice for web users whenever they want to search on web.

But What if you are given a page divided in 3 columns with 3 kinds of results for your keyword from the search engine Google, Yahoo and Bing but not telling in which column that search engine results lies. Looks Interesting? Even I think the same.

Michael Kordahi, an employee of Microsoft created a tool as Blind Search that will return search results in 3 different columns but it doesn’t says that which search engine lie up in each column, those columns are changed at random so that they can not identify if it Google, Yahoo! or Bing.

The challenge is to choose the column you most like after entering your search keyword and then you get the images of the 3 search engines so you can differentiate the search results.

blindtest-search-results

The tool lets you search for text or images that you can compare and choose your favorite result.

The objective of the site is simple, they want to see what happens when you remove the logos of the search engines and see which search engine your brain liked the most.

The site also released the data after testing it for 8 weeks and according to it people choose Google: 41%, Bing: 31%, Yahoo: 28%

So, I recommend to check and participate in my blog poll to tell which search engine you choose in the blind test.

That’s a really cool idea. I chose Yahoo. My second choice would have been Bing. It’s really interesting to know we may just choose Google because of it’s name.

Thanks for sharing!

It’s like a mindset of people which makes them go to google.com for searching anything. The other two rival companies have to change and challenge this thing.

I ended up at bing :) It has a pop window function, which tells me more about the website before I click on it.

From a searcher point of view, that feature is awesome. But from a website / blog owner point of view it’s sux..

Sorry of second comment, But if we see all the comments many visitor like to use Google. Google handle 60% of traffic of world wide web.

Typhoon August 13, 2009 at 7:37 pm

No worry. You can comment as many time you want.
But to correct you that old data says Google has 70% share of web search market not 60% but I think that is past and anyone hardly knows the latest data on the market share.

This is pretty sweet, I myself am a Bing user. I made the change about a month ago and really enjoy Bing results and the entire layout and feel of Bing.

That goes for the Bing test as well :) Voted.

Ohh.. So you went on doing 10 test. That’s something anyone will hardly play with that tool. But at the end you got to know what’s your choice.

strangely enough i went with yahoo . and that’s weird since i don’t think i’ve used yahoo search for more than 3-4 searches in the past 5-6 years .

maybe this is a wake up call for me !? although i could never switch to yahoo from Google . it’s too crowded for my taste . one of the things that attracts people to Google is it’s simplicity . just a search box . ( and a simple name – just type Google )

this must be why microsoft went on with bing … one might think that bing is faster to type than google … and it is … but bing still needs a lot of work done around him . i’ve tried it and i’m disappointed with it’s results .

I think we will be soon be loving Google more as they are going to reveal Google.com search engine in a new way. It’s more faster and having better technology. Google call it as “Caffeine“.
They are testing it right now and I think you can test it here: http://www2.sandbox.google.com/

I took the test and choose Google 4 out of 5 times. I chose Bing once. I’m sure Bing will get gain more interest over time, but Yahoo search is absolutely horrible, it needs to vanish for good. Thanks Typhoon for the taste test I really enjoyed this :)

I would use bing. It gives some extra information at the side of the search result. Which works as a guideline before we actually click on it.
