Techniques for Writing Short Articles on your Blog

By Typhoon On Under Blogging Tips

How much information is enough in an article? How much is too much? And, most importantly, how much information is optimal?
Writing short article have many benefits for you and the readers. Some of the advantages are like:

  • It makes you maintain a high level of interest and frequency of articles.
  • They are easy to write and read i.e time consumption is less.
  • It gives you a psychological break from writing long articles.
  • You do not feel obliged to add extra things.
  • They are much more focused, and goes straight to the point.

writingBut to make a Short Article Successful is really a tough thing if you don’t have much experience in doing so thing. Here are some ideas which will make you able to write some quick but meaningful short articles:

1.Inviting Comments Technique

If you have good amount of readers who are willing to leave comments on your blog, then this can be a great technique to create short articles. For example, you can start some Mini-Polls in which you can ask the readers about their opinion on your question.

The interesting benefit of such articles, is that it makes readers feel they are participating in the blog. The only problem is you can not do this too often. It is also essential that you have many readers who are willing to leave comments, otherwise this technique will not succeed.

2.Link Love Technique

This technique is very easy and used by many bloggers which is a good thing. Each week you can collect your favorite blogs and pages you’ve visited and put them up as a list in a article. This article is relatively easy to do.

Having such articles could be very useful for you and your readers. An additional advantage is, of course, that other webmasters and blogger to whom you have linked to will love that.

3.Quote of the Day or Week Technique

Never underestimate the desire of people for short quotations with essence. The quotes of the day or week are also popular on web. For example, once a week you can give “The best blogging tips of the week“. Do not feel compelled to always having to make a top 10 or top 5 in such articles.

Blogging Tip of the Week Example:

“Don’t focus on having a great blog. Focus on producing a blog that’s great for your readers”

4.Video Article Technique

People love watching videos equally to reading articles. The videos are a great way to add quality content, with minimal effort. You can upload Videos in your article and at the end place some question for the readers to fire up the things little bit.

The videos is not necessary should be yours; you can use videos of other people or bloggers and ask certain questions on it. Make sure that you are giving proper credits to the Video Owner in your post.

5.Linking your Best Article Technique

This is also a very popular technique used by bloggers. Each Month you can create an article Linking to your Articles for that month with small summary or blurb of each article. It can really prove very useful if someone missed reading one of your article.

What Should You Do?

So, should your blog have concise or in-depth content? Here is what I have to say:

  • If you want to increase readers, focus on short and searchable content. This is a good strategy for advertising-driven sites or sites that sell impulse buys.
  • If you want people who really need a solution, focus on comprehensive coverage. This is a good strategy if you sell highly targeted solutions to complicated problems.

But Hey! Do not just rely on short articles.

As I said at the starting of this article, short articles have many advantages, but if you just go on publishing short articles, then your blog will lack a real substance that need your readers .e Long nad Highly Informative Articles.

Short articles will be most effective when combining them with one longer significant items. If you have written many of these long articles, you will undoubtedly benefit from taking a short break with a few short articles.

If you have any other ideas for creating successful short articles, please leave a comment to let us know.

i am not really in the favour of Short articles. that tell readers that a blogger is not fully committed to his blog and the readers. once in a month will do but not more than that.

It’s important to find the right “ratio” between short and long posts. I think I read once that blog posts should usually be between 200 and 600 words because the attention span of most internet users is very short.

But it depends on your industry I guess. If your focus is on producing “fast news articles” then very short posts are great. But if you’re into extensive tutorials etc., short posts are probably a bad idea :)

This was a great post though – also the length!

And you know what, articles between 200-600 words are considered to be short articles which I read at one place.
Well, this article was 709 words long so it can’t be considered a short article ;)

The quickest way to post a comments is to add movie or pictures into the post. It will immediatly fill lots of space in the post and even if you type less, the post wouldn’t look empty.

Hello. At first, I was skeptical about this article, because I personally don’t like to read many short articles. Of course, if an article is too long, I sometimes won’t read it unless it’s by someone that I know will hold my attention and isn’t going to be long winded. However, I really agree with what you have to say here. When someone only posts short articles, it comes across as lazy to me. If I wrote 200 – 500 words every article, I could EASILY post them multiple times a day.

However, short articles have their place. For one thing, you should never write more than what is necessary to get your point across in the way that you want to, and sometimes, it takes fewer words to express a thought. Another thing, sometimes, people just don’t want to read a lot of words. They want you to get to the point, you know?

Another way to shorten your articles is if you notice that your article is coming out longer than you had hoped, try finding a way to split it into two or more articles. Maybe you can make the topic more specific, and have a “part two” or something.

Ya, Splitting article and to make it publish as series is also a really good thing and it also creates excitement in readers for reading out the next part if they liked the first one.

That’s good but don’t post 1 quote per day in an article..If you can manage try to explain the meaning which is coming out of the quotes and ask some questions at the end to make it look good.

Or you can make an article every week with 5 quotes in each and ask readers which one they like and why…There are many more things you can do with it..
