How You Can Protect Our Planet Earth As A Blogger

by Sushant Risodkar on December 8, 2009

make money online

Everyone is aware about How bad the environmental condition is getting of our Planet Earth. As you will be aware of the recent conference being held at Copenhagen in Denmark where they will be talking about how they can reduce the carbon emission and various other ways to Save The Planet Earth.

And if you still aren’t aware about it, then you are probably a greedy person who don’t care about all this and only like to live in your luxurious life, but remember that your luxurious life won’t stay long if something really, really, really bad happens with Earth .

But It’s really a serious issue one should look at it with full respect. As a blogger, you can take 3 Simple Steps which can contribute really big towards saving our planet.

3241454929_fc74d9b5ff

1. Use Green Hosting

As a blogger, one can choose Green Hosting for their blogs. It means that choosing those Web Hosting Companies which are using electricity for running their servers and offices produced from environmental friendly resources like Windmills. One of the main and best leader in web hosting companies and is still Green is HostGator.

HostGator is powering their servers and offices with the electricity produced from the Windmills situated at Texas city. All of their shared and reseller servers are 130% wind powered!

According to HostGator, It’s the equivalent of:

  1. Removing 444 cars from the road for a year, or
  2. Powering 321 homes with clean energy for a year, or
  3. Saving 5,654 barrels of oil, or
  4. Protecting 551 acres of forest for a year

Just imagine how big you will be contributing by using such hosting. And I am proud to say that I am also a HostGator Customer. They are really good as hosting company. They are cheap, reliable and supportive, Plus they are Green! What else do you want?

2. Change Up The Lighting

When you are blogging, consider switching off those big lights(tube lights) and instead of it, try using CFL bulbs which provides really good light which is sufficient enough to let you blog properly and also it consumes very less electricity. You can also take this one step ahead by switching off the wall lights and bringing in a Table Light or A light which can be focused easily anywhere i.e you will get the required light at your workplace.

This can really help reduce the carbon emission as you will be saving electricity and the best part is that you will be saving lot of money on Electricity Bills. That means you are Making Money Taking such steps ;)

3. Configure Your PC

According to some studies, it has been found that reducing/adjusting the brightness and contrast of your monitor screen helps in saving electricity. Also, a study conducted at TechLogg stated that use of LCD monitors or Energy Efficient monitors can help in reducing the energy consumption. Other than that you can use low electricity consuming computer parts for your PC like Cooling Fan etc.

The Green Conclusion

I hope as blogger, we can contribute big part towards making the earth better from how it is right now. We can’t just talk on this matter of global warming as it has been already too late and one must start taking the steps from right now.

Let me know your thoughts. Tell me your ways so that we can protect our plant earth as a blogger.

Protecting Environment and Earth Generally is mission to all people in Universe, but allow me to say this that here in Egypt , they no give any attention to this .
Actually we tried over and over to advise people to protect the planet, not just as blogger or internet users but also as all of us together .
I appreciate also what they do on HostGators and hope we can say them little Thanks words from here and contribute with them .
Planet is bleeding , please help as much as u can …

I hope hostgator step become a start line for another host to do the same, in other mean, more people aware about what problem earth face in the future.

Well, is it needed to build a federacy or something like that to make rules which control about it? I mean, using windmills is a must, etc….

I do agree with numbers 2 and 3 but I have to say that I am thinking that 1 is just away to promote your affiliate link.

I am not saying that it is bad to promote a link but I can’t easily accept the fact that hostagator is a company which abides to the “save the planet” protocoal just because they claim it to be.

Have you seen there place yet?

Here, the trust factor comes in place. There are many things that haven’t been proved yet but still you believe in it a lot.
Let’s take a basic example…You believe in God but have seen God? Did you saw any certificate regarding it?

Same is in this case..You will have to believe it because it’s a Big Company and they can’t lay with people with such high reputation.

Green hosting is good idea. I have hostgator account, but i didn’t notice that HG have such kind of program. I’m so proud. Hope another hosting do the same

Marketing strategy or not, we should appreciate hostgator way. Well, if you think it’s marketing, it’s remind us to one concept called “Green marketing”, when many businessman offer “green”-related product in way to get people who aware about that things become interested.

Good tips! I’m with FatCow, and they’re also wind-powered. Though they use carbon offsets to make the claim. Thank you for supporting businesses in my area! HostGator is just down the road from me. (If I’d known before signing up with FatCow… well, c’est la vie. I’m happy with my Web host, too.) The only problem with your lighting suggestions is that after a while of doing this, it can give you headaches and eyestrain to work under standard, office flourescent tubes!

Give up paper cups and plastic foam cups, and just rinse your coffee cup daily – that helps, too.

Thinkhost- solar/wind powered host
iPage- wind powered host
Fatcow-green hosting

As a blogger, we can easily write as many articles that we may in order to disseminate awareness but we cannot be sure that one or two will respond so basically, it boils down to starting it ourselves online or offline. Too much rant, less action equals no result.

About the less respond which may come to our “save planet”-related article, yes it’s too bad because sometime we need to give them something. But if we giving something such prize/freebies, i think it’s not a pure awareness about the importance of saving earth.

Ya I love to be as eco-friendly as possible. I like gardening very much, so I use to take care of my plants from time to time. Almost 5-6 months back I planted a Neem Tree in the soil by taking out from the pot as it didn’t grew much into it and also it was going to dry up, so I went on one Sunday and it took me almost 2-3 hrs for taking that plant out from that pot(as the roots were so tights in pot soil). But I am feeling it nice because soon it will grow up big and I could breathe some Fresh Air.

I started when I was 63, a late start I know, but better late than never. One other point is that I have plans to build an electricity generating windmill. I intend to move to Florida soon to take advantage of solar energy, wind energy, and will grow my own veggies. My dad built his own solar hot water heater and i gues i got the encouragement from him. I encourage others to do what there location allows to save the environment. It just make a lot of sense.

I am not using them right now but that will be my next move in the spring when my actual hosting contract expires, I was told many times that they are the best for the IM industry add that to the energy saving, one just can’t go wrong, really.
Also thanks for the tips about the computer monitor.

Some hosting companies have been started in the last year with the primary goal of being green, however, Bluehost has a solid reputation that these small startups cant compete with.

This is a great article with some very good, valid points on how to keep green at work and at home on your pc. Thanks for the tips and we are going to make sure our work and home pc’s and monitors are set as best we can to keep them green :)

I already use energy saver lights at home when on my pc (well just in general I use them) and I have also setup my pc to use less power and save money when its not being used on large programs (but the power settings have to go up for my gaming now and them so not to fry my pc).

We also make sure we get good eco friendly monitors for home and work use, like the industrial monitors we have at KMW, they are all green and we are very eco friendly and have been for some time now.

Thanks again for a great read and please keep up with the quality ideas if you have more to help stay green around the home and work.

Also would just like to add quickly if its ok? I have used Sensational-hosting.co.uk for personal hosting they seem like a good green company to host with. Also I found this site Carbonadvicegroup.com which is very nice and handy for checking and keeping green. (hope it was ok to link to them here as some blogs dont like it but its for a good cause so I hope its ok?)
