Time Management For Bloggers And Marketers

By Melvin On Under Blogging Tips

This is guest blogged by Melvin from MelvinBlog.com, a super duper cool blog. :)

These days, I have observed many school kids, college graduates and even the individuals who are doing regular 9 to 5 jobs are considering blogging and internet marketing as a source of part time income. However, I am not saying that this is not a wise decision to make but as we all know that blogging and internet marketing requires sufficient time and efforts from your side if you want to succeed.

In this piece of writing, I will (try to) shed some light on the most important issue which is associated with blogging and internet marketing, “time management”.

As we all are aware that time management is an important aspect of every virtue of life, so we cannot overlook this aspect in online businesses as well. Time management for bloggers and internet marketers is very important because they have to take care of multiple things at one time. If they will fail to devote sufficient amount of time to their online business then they will not get the outcomes as they desire and on the other hand, if they devote all their time to their online business then they will not actively participate in their daily routine activities.

Considering the above mentioned scenario in my mind, I would like to elaborate the importance of time management for bloggers and internet marketers and how they can manage their time in an organized manner so they can take care of their online business as well as their daily routine activities.

Disclaimer: I’m not a professional counselor or whatever. Anything laid out here is entirely based on my opinion, and my experience with it myself and from my close colleagues. As always, consult a professional person first.

1. For School Going Kids

If you are a kid  going to school everyday, then you must devote sufficient amount of time to your studies, it is your first responsibility. After coming back from your school session, take some rest and have your meal. Then, get rid of your home work (if you have any). After getting rid of all these issues, devote 1-2 hours to your online business.

For students, 1-2 hours will be enough because they are still at their learning stage and too much on anything can cause stress in the child. Remember, as a kid, making money SHOULD NEVER be a serious goal. The reason you’re blogging is for early exposures that can benefit you in the future.

2. For College Students

For college students, it’s much easier to manage their time and organize their daily routine schedule properly. College students can take care of their online business while they are at their college or university. They can divert their attention towards the computer lab of the college of university in their free time and can take care of their online business quite comfortably. T

his will assure that they are utilizing their free time to their most. This is easier since college life is a life of more freedom where as you could do a lot without hurting your studies that much.

3. For People Working In A Job

For individuals who are doing regular 9 to 5 job, It’s important that these types of individuals must understand the importance of time management if they want to keep a balance in their personal and professional life. Their responsibilities are more as compared to school going children and college graduates.

For them, it would be hard to manage time for business but if they put some efforts then this won’t be a difficult task. They must devote sometime to their online business on regular basis, maybe 2-3 hours. But, they must put some extra efforts in their weekends. In this way, they would devote sufficient amount of time to their online business as well as to their daily routine activities.

Conclusion

Time management for bloggers and internet marketers is very important. Proper time management will assure you a stress free life as it makes sure you’re maximizing everything without hurting your other responsibilities and stressing yourself. What do you think? What’s your own tactic that you’re using?

    Very nice post Melvin…
You have listing the whole blogging into three parts. thats great..Time management is necessary for each one of us. And following the schedule is another important point. Every blogger should spend atleast one hour in blogging either writing post or promoting their blog, or commenting in other blog.
this will provide good relation with other blogs

That was an excellent article. I often struggle in managing time and yes since I am in 9-5 job people’s section I always find less time for blogging. Most of the time I take sundays to write articles and schedule it for that week and I spend the week looking for resources.

Because we’re talk so many things about consistency, a word of “time management” sometime comes. And now, it’s shown on one article. First of all, thanks to Melvin. Well, i’m put my concentration on “For college students” point since i’m into it. I just notice that i can practice your tips on using computer lab on my college to blogging. My college have computer lab also, but it’s Linux and the internet is slow, so i need consider it first. The other solution is, go to internet cafe around the college. I need to pay for it but since i can do my blog schedule, it’s OK.

Anyway, quite disagree with this statement : “College students can take care of their online business while they are at their college or university” if it’s design class. Design college is very busy. It’s rarely to find free time. And if their have free time, their prefer to sleep. So, i think maybe blogging is not suitable activity for design student.

Well i like the school going section, but currently i giving up on my resting time, i hardly watch TV and make sure I get 4 hours a day for blogging. Though I don’t neglect my studies I am seeing my marks deteriorating, but i’m not gonna give up on blogging, I’m sure some day I’ll earn more than my parents.

You see Melvin, I believe that if i could sacrifice some time and some rest maybe later on I can spend the rest of my life holidaying, look at Maki, he worked hard before now he went on a holiday for 6 months, i’ll do anything for such a life. My parents are also getting objective, though they were initially happy about me earning money, i try to persuade them by giving them examples of famous bloggers. But i am very much happy about my blogs growing traffic and profits and I also got featured on TOI.

Ok since this is time management article, i think i should discuss again of my killer-time decreasement plan. The plan is about reduce all of your activity time by some minute and use that for your blogging activity.

If normally, you bath for 20 minute, reduce it to 10 minute. Eating time 20 minute, reduce it to 10 minute. On that 2 activity, you already save 20 minute. And if in a day, bath + eat is 2x, so you already save 20minute x 2 = 40 minute <<– enough time to do blogging

Time management is a big issue for me. Between school and work (40+ hrs) I find it hard to find the time to work on my blogs. Generally I spend all my free time reading blogs and now commenting on them as well. As of today, I decided to setup a schedule for my blogging times. 1 hour in the morning that is optional every day, 1 hour in the evening that is mandatory, and the weekends as much I can to create and research future blog posts.

Thanks for the Time Management break down.

My school is basically a dummy school i.e Not much importance on how much attendance you have in the school, only you have to pass out the annual examination. The time I save from not going to school regularly is utilized in self study and then later on the time is given to blogging work.

I agree that schools are a top priority but not india, you see in India education has been simply made tough. A person with a c india can get an a elsewhere, thats because Indian schools teach you everything that you never use, we are in need of a serious educational reform.

Yeah, I also completely think like that. Indian Education system is really sick r8 now. Just think, why a person who wants to become a Software Engineer have to learn Laws of Gravitation or Thermodynamics which is absolutely of no use in that field.

Exactly what i mean pal, my teachers, my parents and my friends think that i’m not very intelligent because i never get more than 50 in maths, phy, chem and bio, but what really bothers me is that they never realize that i’ve always got above 90 in economics, commerce and History, they think thats of no use. India most parents want their kids to become only a doctor or a techie guy, they have no intentions to let their kids explore. This is the main reason Indians lack creativity and innovation, we definitely need a lot of educational reforms. Have you ever wondered why only few Indians were capable of winning the noble prize.

It doesn’t mean that if you prioritize things you must spend longer time in it than the others. Prioritizing is doing most important thing and accomplishing it without talking about how long it was.

For me, at my age, school is my priority above all. But in the case you gave, if it’s more important to spend more time to my online business, then there’s no problem as long as I do my school tasks first.

In the end, you should have time management. :D

Time management is really very important if you want a well-balanced life. What I always do is I make a schedule on the tasks for the day and follow it. This way, I do not neglect my household chores while doing attending to my online businesses. And once you do this, it will all become a habit. You will get used to finishing everything for your online businesses in the time that you allotted.

I have a day job and blog mostly after hours. It’s sometimes hard to juggle a job, blogging and still have time for myself and friends. We need to know when enough is enough and that is only done once you have set aside time for each.

I also forgot to mention that I still have to do the cleaning, washing, ironing, etc. I’m a single guy so I even have to do the cooking.

I have experimented with time mangement but oddly what works best for me is write down a list according to priority and then scratch out what you have accomplished one by one. I know this may sound primitive but strangely writing it down helps me reinforce my memory. Nobody has immaculate memory. At best we only remember what is urgent and rushed. That is why I write down tasks if they are not part of my routine and tackle them one at a time in between whatever other routine tasks I perform. There are a lot of ways you can do this, some use calenders and some use diaries. I just use the simplest form of scribbling it on a piece of paper. Ha HA try it for it might just work.
