You are absolutely correct.
On-page relates to the pages on the web page itself. These are controlled by webmasters i.e. website administrators.

Here are a few important on-page factors:
1. Content- well-written, unique and keyword optimized.
2. Unique title and meta description.
3. No problems like broken links, validation code errors, 404 and other server response code errors.

How can you say, Google not read Meta Keywords? you have any proof related this.

Hi Andreas,

You have covered these tips well. I specifically like the one you mentioned regarding H1 tag. In terms of optimization, I should have the keyword in the title as it is the most important thing. Next to it is to place the keyword in the meta description and H1 tag.

Below it is to include that keyword on the page in the content, where I can have it in bold or italics. I do this mainly for reference purposes. I believe this is just part of the 20% of SEO, but what brings in visits and great traffic is through linking.

Another useful tip would be to create footer links with your keywords on your own site that lead to the relevant pages. Inlinks are important.
