WordPress has launched their 13th major release of wordpress i.e. WordPress 3.0 and have named it “Thelonious“..I must say here that wordpress keeps very strange names most of the time when their launch their new release.

WordPress, in it’s official post says:

Arm your vuvuzelas (it’s noise sux – Typhoon) : WordPress 3.0, the thirteenth major release of WordPress and the culmination of half a year of work by 218 contributors, is now available for download (or upgrade within your dashboard).

wordpress 3.0

Some of the major highlights of this update are:

  • New Default Theme called Twenty Ten (not something amazing for me)
  • WordPress and WordPress MU have merged, allowing the management of multiple sites (called Multisite) from one WordPress installation.
  • WordPress says the the new interface is lighter…Let see how it is after I test it out.
  • New custom menu management feature, allows creation of custom menus combining posts, pages, categories, tags, and links for use in theme menus or widgets.
  • Support for shortlinks.
  • A lighter admin color scheme to increase accessibility and put the focus more squarely on your content.
  • Custom header and background APIs.
  • and many other features have been introduced…

Typhoon,

Thanks for the info. This is a awesome update! I love all of the bug fixes and the performance enhancements plus the light interface. I really like the short link option and new style.

I’ve been waiting for this for so long, i caught up myself in going to wordpress.org couple times a day just to look at “download” button :)

Anyway I updated as usual and it looks there is no problems related to that update. My database size decreased after phpMyAdmin “optimize” a lot more than it did at 2.9.2 one minute before update, but i guess it isnt a big deal. I’m still waiting for some _specific_ performance tests on highly crowded websites to see if WP 3 brings something interesting to the table.
Ofcourse I’m counting on SmartlBoggerz readers :)

Cheers!

I upgraded and am going to do a more thorough test and post about it on Sunday after letting it soak for a few days. I just used the SimpleScript method of updating from my Hosting provider and it worked flawlessly for me.

I updated to 3.0, but facing problems in wp-admin. So, now down-grading back to 2.9.2. Will update to 3.0 after plugin related updates are released!

why don’t you do one thing..Just disable all the plugins and upgrade to 3.0..Then slowly activate the plugins in a group of 3-5 and see which plugin is causing the problem and then let it be disabled until an upgrade is available for it.

This is a great advice. I will probably take these steps myself, once I decide to upgrade to Thelonious. Thing is that I use Thesis and have heard that there are some people having some problems with it. Do you know of any prticular issue of compatibility between WP 3 and Thesis. Would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks

I’m trying to be wise in waiting for all the bugs to be fixed before me installing it. :D

We have not upgraded. We are taking a wait and see approach, and will probably spring for the upgrade on 3.1 or 3.01

Everything seems to be working fine, I use a theme from WooThemes.

I was expecting quite a lot of compatibility problems so I cleared my full day so that I could make sure that everything was fixed by the end of the night. I was really glad when everything went smoothly.

Just upgraded as well and I’m loving it so far. The only thing I don’t like is how the default position of the post tags and categories windows have been interchanged. Minor detail but I’ve just gotten used to the old placements and it’s going to take a while to readjust.
