WordPress has launched their 13th major release of wordpress i.e. WordPress 3.0 and have named it “Thelonious“..I must say here that wordpress keeps very strange names most of the time when their launch their new release.

WordPress, in it’s official post says:

Arm your vuvuzelas (it’s noise sux – Typhoon) : WordPress 3.0, the thirteenth major release of WordPress and the culmination of half a year of work by 218 contributors, is now available for download (or upgrade within your dashboard).

Some of the major highlights of this update are:

  • New Default Theme called Twenty Ten (not something amazing for me)
  • WordPress and WordPress MU have merged, allowing the management of multiple sites (called Multisite) from one WordPress installation.
  • WordPress says the the new interface is lighter…Let see how it is after I test it out.
  • New custom menu management feature, allows creation of custom menus combining posts, pages, categories, tags, and links for use in theme menus or widgets.
  • Support for shortlinks.
  • A lighter admin color scheme to increase accessibility and put the focus more squarely on your content.
  • Custom header and background APIs.
  • and many other features have been introduced…

Here is a video from WordPress that explains major highlights of WordPress 3.0:

WordPress 3.0 is having lots of features this time. And I must say that wordpress is really getting better with every release. Let’s hope that WordPress release a more stable release 3.1 that will fix the bugs of 3.0 that people will discover.

I haven’t yet updated the wordpress version and waiting to see what problems people are facing while upgrading so that I can be prepared with a solution for it.

Just upgraded as well and I’m loving it so far. The only thing I don’t like is how the default position of the post tags and categories windows have been interchanged. Minor detail but I’ve just gotten used to the old placements and it’s going to take a while to readjust.
