Increase Your Blog Traffic In 1 Week!

by Taylor Thompson on January 23, 2011 · 44 comments

This is a guest post by Taylor Thompson who is a blogger and currently writes at DoStrong. Read in this post, how you can increase your blog traffic surprisingly in one week by “________”. So, if you want to increase your blog traffic then continue reading this post.

Before I begin, I would really like to thank Sushant for the opportunity. Guest posting is my new thing to do, and it’s an honor to be guest posting on a blog that I have been familiar with for over a year now, if not longer. Back when I was blogging about ‘blogging’, Sushant and I actually linked to each other in our blog rolls.

Today, I am here to teach you guys how to greatly increase your blog traffic within 1 week. This post is not going to be a gimmick. You really can increase your blog traffic within 1 week, even if your blog is fresh out of the oven. How do you do this? Let me just put it this way; It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.

A few days ago, I was blessed with the opportunity to run into a great product called Guest Post Secrets. Don’t worry, I’m not trying to sell you anything. The product was written by Erica at Erica.biz. At age 26, Erica sold her first business (a hosting company) for $1,100,000.00. After watching the videos provided in Guest Post Secrets, I learned that I was missing 1 component to blogging that was really keeping me from being successful.

From Erica’s videos, I learned that to be a successful blogger, I needed to really be surrounded by other successful bloggers. Essentially, I need to make quality friends with as many elite bloggers as possible. The more bloggers I can become friends with, the more bloggers I will have writing about my site, and allowing me to guest post on their sites. This strategy is called networking, and it’s nothing new. Sadly, many bloggers fail to network, but today, I am here to tell you how to begin.

Steps to Increase Your Blog Traffic with Guest Posting

If you want to know how to increase your blog traffic with guest posting, be sure to follow each step below. If used properly and consistently, you could get hundreds or even thousands of free visitors to your website. Also, you will be receiving a quality backlink within Google, which is always a plus.

Step 1. Find a Blog to Write for

Before you can submit your guest post to a blog, you will need to find a blog to write for. The blog doesn’t necessarily have to be in your niche. Just find a blog that you know you can submit quality information to. One great way of doing this is by searching Google for a niche + “guest post,” or “guest post by.” Results in Google will return with a bunch of sites related to the niche you submitted, which also allow for guest posts.

Step 2. Contact a Popular Blogger

Once you have found a good blog to submit a guest post to, you need to contact the owner of this website. Tell the blogger you’re contacting him/her because you would like to write a blog post for their site. Also, be sure to show the blogger some of your other articles, as examples of your work. This kind of works as a resume.

Step 3. Getting the Response Email

If the blogger you have contacted has given you the, “Yes,” to a guest post, then begin writing. When you initially contact the blogger, you may want to throw some guest posts ideas their way, to make sure your posting ideas meet their requirements. This way, when you submit your article to the blogger, they’re more likely to accept it.

Step 4. Writing the Blog Post

A popular blogger has just given you a great opportunity to write on their blog. Don’t write a junk post that nobody is going to care about. Truly think about how you’re going to write your article, and really make sure that the post you’re submitting will be beneficial to the blog owner’s subscribers.

Step 5. Send that Blog Post

Now that you have written your blog post, you will want to send it to the blogger. It’s important to keep the blogger’s work to a minimum, so always send them the blog post via email as a notepad attachment with properly formatted html. This way, they can simply copy and paste your article into their website.

Step 6. Your Article is Accepted. Congratulations!

This is where the fun begins. If your article has been accepted by a popular blog, especially if this blog has thousands or hundreds of thousands of subscribers, then begin to watch the traffic flow your way. Seriously, folks. You can get thousands of referring visitors by doing guest posts, which is why I highly recommend them.

Final Thoughts

Just like high school, if you knew a popular person, and you were in with them, you were popular. Whether you like it or not, blogging is a popularity contest. The more bloggers you know, the more chances you will have at being successful.

Hello Taylor,
Guest posting sure can take your blog to the next level. I am just writing my first guest post for a friends blog, I say friend I have met her through blogging and leaving comments.
She actually approached me to write a guest post, so blog hopping and commenting really can pay off.
Enjoyed the post, look forward to more from you.

Pete, Commenting is a great way to get known by another blogger. As you probably already know, the key is to make quality, relevant comments. This may be difficult on a blog that has hundreds of comments per post, but it seemed to work well for you. :-) Congrats.

If I can make one recommendation, put your new friend into a spreadsheet. Keep a spreadsheet of all of the bloggers you know, and whether or not they let you guest post. Other information like their domain URL, Facebook, phone number, location, etc… are also good things to remember.

Shah, Writing is an extremely important part of meeting pro bloggers. You don’t have to be an amazing writer, but you do have to be good enough to get your point across. When it comes down to it, it’s quality, helpful articles that are going to be approved by pro bloggers.

Not only that, but leaving quality guest posts which link to your site will also increase your website’s ranking within Google. It’s a win-win situation.

guest posting is a huge advantage guys but you have to use it properly and effectively….
many bloggers choose the wrong blog to guest post and their one good post goes down the drain

Reply

Taylor January 25, 2011 at 6:47 am

Tushar, you are 100% correct. You have to guest post on quality blogs. That may mean the blog you’re guest posting on has a high page rank, or a large number of subscribers, or visitors. Basically, don’t guest post just do guest post. Guest post because you’re giving something great, and getting something great in return.

I’m aware that being a guest blogger for another blog is a great way to increase traffic but my problem is, it’s so hard to find a blog to guest at! I guess it’s because my niche requires that you become a known “guru” in the field first before they take you seriously. I’m still making my way up to there.

Reply

Taylor January 25, 2011 at 6:50 am

Kylie, don’t make the mistake of only blogging in your niche. Getting your link on a high page rank website is another important aspect of guest posting. For example: I blog about building muscle, but here I am posting on Smart Bloggerz. Don’t pass up a chance for a quality link just because it is irrelevant.

Maybe you can guest with someone who isn’t necessary at the very TOP of the food chain in your niche; but then work your way up from there?

Since I have never tried guest posting before it’s great to see how the entire process of getting your guest post accepted. Thanks for sharing your tips and advice, I will use this when I begin guest posting.

All of the given tips above are very effective. In addition to the tips, We can also make use of our previous blogs and update them add few paragraphs, include comments from readers, and make use of link-wheel. Link wheel is one of the most effective way to maximize our backlinks. It is a technique wherein related post are listed below the blog. You just have to make sure that link wheel must be well structured to prevent link dance.

Guest posting is really helpful in blog promotion. But it should be done carefully. One should submit only quality guest posts to make an impact on other bloggers otherwise the guest post will not give any profit.

Taylor it would be great if you could give us a list of websites we can do guest blogging on. Bonus points if you can separate them by category.

It would be a lot of work, but it would also be really popular :-)

Reply

Taylor Thompson January 27, 2011 at 9:57 pm

Zac – There is no single list of websites that allow for guest posts. Some bloggers may have websites that say nothing about guest posts, but if you contact them, they still may accept it.

Thanks Taylor Thompson for sharing such a great idea. But I am facing a problem that my blog have Google PR1 so whenever I tried to contact a successful blogger he didn’t even reply. What to do?

Reply

Taylor Thompson January 27, 2011 at 10:02 pm

My blog has a page rank 0 with only 6 posts, and one of my articles was just approved by JOHN CHOW. YES! JohnChow.com. The article that I wrote for John links to my website DoStrong.com, which is NOT even in his NICHE. The article should go live today. What’s my point? Page rank has nothing to do with whether or not a blogger will accept your article.

When you write your articles for pro bloggers, make sure they are the following:

1. Quality.
2. Unique.
3. Lengthy.
4. Links to quality sources.

Finally, most pro bloggers don’t want to link to a site that looks like garbage / or a site that has garbage content.

Basically, in order to get a guest post approved by popular websites, you must be QUALITY all around.

When a writer writes a guest post, it diverts half traffic of the other site.About article writing I want to say that good contents submitted at good articles directories are very useful for traffic. If you comment on a blog always try to choose that blog that is related to your niche. In this way link of your site will also be part of organic searches.
