“I’m to busy to post to my blog!” – Your survival guide

This is a guest post by Peter from Ideas Bubble.

As things progress on your blog and as the number of visitors increases, so does the amount of work that becomes yours. Huge numbers of visitors to a blog always leads to more work. This expectation increase with new subscribers that the content you are offering will remain of good quality, or else you lose everything you’ve worked for.

What arises because of this is the constant excuse, “I’m busy.” If you write posts that are 2 pages long on your blog and this is what readers expect from you every day. What do you plan to do if at some point the problem arises, when you truly are busy.

Here are some of the best tips tat you should always consider when this problem arises:

I'M BUSY!

Post a few days ahead

The best thing that you should always do, especially if you manage a blog that needs to constantly deliver top quality content is to post your topics a few days ahead. This method works especially well with blogs that don’t cover topics such as latest news and have topics that don’t matter when they are published. If you write your posts a few days in advance and schedule them for later posting then you provide a fail safe approach for your writing habits. With a few posts still to be published you have enough time to take a break and get back into publishing at a latter time. Just remember to make up for the time you didn’t post.

Encourage guest posting

Encouraging guest posting on your blog can always give you a few days break from posting. Try to reward your readers for guest posting. Give them a reason to do it. For example, write an e-book that you will give only to the people who guest post on your blog. If you manage to get enough guest posts, in the meantime, focus on writing more posts. There is nothing worse than telling your readers you won’t be posting for a while and finishing things with a whole month’s worth of guest posts. This will make things look as though you were never actually engaged with the blog. The posts were still rolling out, but the author was nowhere to be seen.

Be direct with your readers

If you really are struggling to publish new quality posts on your blog, tell your readers this. (Better for a personal blog) Try make up a good quality excuse that you won’t be able to post. Tell your readers that you will be going on a long earned holiday which you had been planning for months. Hopefully they won’t hate you for your leavings.

Write a good set of backup posts

Just like posting a few days ahead, another important thing you can do is write a good set of backup posts. Essentially these are posts which you don’t have any plans on publishing on your blog at any set dates. They are just there as a backup in case you cannot publish. The best time to use these posts is if you fall sick for 2 weeks and you really cannot write any posts, these ones should fill your readers interests.

Conclusion

Having a backup plan for when you really are busy can be a life saver when it comes to your blog. Follow all the tips above and you should be covered if something happens to you and you can no longer write for your blog. Losing readers and subscribers to a blog is horrible, especially if you lost them because you didn’t have enough time to post to your blog.

  1. I think just being direct is the best way to go. I for one don’t have the energy to post days ahead of time because I like to see my results as SOON as I’m done… maybe I’m just impatient  . At any rate, letting people know that you’ve been busy is fine in my opinion, and can make them feel like they are a part of your life which is great for community-building 😉

  4. This is a great list, however, the success rate varies. I have been trying to develop a list of backup posts, but have been too busy with lot of other things. Hopefully, I should be able to carry out some of the activities in the future.
