So You Think You Can Be An Affiliate? – 4 Things To Think About

This is a guest post by Steven Papas who blogs about software reviews and more at VeryBestSoftware.net. If you think you want to be successful as an affiliate marketer then this post is for you. Discover the 4 things which will help you hit the bulls eye in affiliate marketing.

At least 40% of beginning entrepreneurs, who come online every year to start a business, go into affiliate marketing. Surprisingly, it is only one out of every ten affiliates that succeed; this is 10% only. Many of them never make any substantial amount to help them quit their day job and kick their boss GOODBYE! – the dream had been dreaming for long. And you know what; they don’t even know what they ‘ve been doing wrong.

Affiliate marketing has been grouped as one of the easiest yet long ways of making some extra cash online. No doubt, it has changed the life of many people. But not everyone understands the secret of being successful as an affiliate marketer.

Inner Force

One of the problems that many beginners are facing is that they never look for the cause of their misfortune within. The secret to success in any business lies within. You may have all the necessary tools at your disposal but if you lack those inner facilities, you will definitely fail.

Failure starts from the inside and if you are going to succeed, it has to start from the inside too.

There is a motive to any businessman. You may be in need of money to come out of debt, quit your boring job or to change your life entirely. Thus, you want to start affiliate marketing for the money and not for fun. Whatever your motivation might be, there is need to dedicate your whole self to learning and perfecting the skills you need to succeed.

Get Rid of Your “Instant Gratification” Mentality

Remember: anything worth having is worth working for. If you want to become a super soccer player, going to the field a few times a week will not set you apart and bring you millions. The same thing applies here. If you are looking for some overnight success or a sort of ‘magic money’, then affiliate marketing is not for you and you will definitely get frustrated, waste money and time and give up soon.

The WEB knows how to delay results. You may just be burning with excitement after reading a certain affiliate marketing book by a GURU ― with your hopes fixed on that paycheck in your mail box next week. Face the truth, no paycheck is coming. You have to strategize your actions first.

Follow a Proven Plan – Find a Successful Mentor

Stick with a given plan on affiliate marketing. There are a lot of training systems and techniques out there. Just like you may be thinking, I really got sick of all these and decided to ask a few questions to a super affiliate friend. Well, it all happened that he never did as much work as I do. But it seems he gets results pretty faster.

Only then I got to understand it all has to do with my attitude towards the whole game. I never really followed a particular system properly before jumping to another. So if you desire that money, you must be willing and have the ability to follow instructions diligently and patiently, even when you may not be seeing results at first. Find a mentor who has already succeeded on what you are trying to do now. If he is someone you know, take him out, buy him a pizza and he will give you the best money making tips you could ever get.

Are You Willing to Spend Some Time There?

You will need enough time to work as hard as you can.  When you are starting out, there is no need to relax and work three hours a day ― as you may have been taught in those training books or push button formula. You will need time to research niches, write and post articles and build backlinks. Don’t forget: people are not fool. From my experience I got from my blog, where I give software reviews and discount coupons, people appreciate those who offer high quality service and give value to their everyday life.

If you really dream of becoming a successful affiliate marketer, then you need to be patient enough and put those hours to work. Once you have established your way and the money starts coming, you can then start regulating your working hours. In most cases, this might take few weeks or months of commitment.

I ‘ve done that and it ‘s worth the effort. Waiting for your views 😉

    1. My mentor and a proven plan really helped me, Sourish, otherwise I wouldn’t have succeeded too. The right choice of niche and the right target of keywords I run up for made the difference in order to get results. Time and persistence are a no brainer ofcourse.

  1. You’re right to say a mentor is very important to succeed. The concept of affiliate marketing is quite simple to understand but making a substantial income from it demands a serious business plan. A mentor is then necessary because he knows the way to the top. You could then just follow proven strategies.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Alexis. I was helped by two mentors and I always give credit to them cause they deserve it. What one should be carefull though, is the dozens of false gurus online, who promise money instantly. That’s impossible, so stay away.

  2. You’re absolutely right, problems are always within.

We’re always trying to run into some new way to make something, where as we are not taking care of things which we know and can do easily.

I think we need to think and make some ideas or hit list to check our working.

  3. I think some people view affiliate marketing as a kind of get rich quick scheme. I think you hit the nail on the head with your “Get Rid of Your “Instant Gratification” Mentality” section. At the end of the day affiliate marketing can actually be one of the most difficult ways to make money online. Affiliate marketers need to really zero in on the proper KPIs for their business in order to turn a profit…and most people who enter the Affiliate marketing world just don’t have that data cruching mentality to really succeed…which totally explains the 10% success rate!

  4. Affiliate Marketing is all about getting the right type of traffic. It does not depend upon the quantity of visitors but on the quality of visitors. In my opinion, you can be a good affiliate only if your audience trusts you.

  5. To make your inner self positive is first step of any business. This is also known as dedication.

If you have strong endurance and positive attitude towards business, the best one is affiliate marketing. All the steps explained in this post are really result of long research.

  6. I don’t think making money is so easy in Affiliate Marketing. No doubt the return it pays can even be a whooping five figure every month but I believe it involves a lot of hard work to get that kind of money. From what I know, the super affiliates are the ones who get all the hefty payments but I’m not sure whether after reaching that star mark the super affiliates sit back and relax or still keep working to keep the steady flow of income.

    1. no, it’s not easy. It’s very demanding and difficult to master. Bear in mind, though, that any profitable business will be time-consuming unless you automate it. Outsourcing is my orientation and tried solution.

  7. We are running couple of websites based on affiliate marketing and it is not easy to make it! You still have to make quality content, promote your website and much more…the competition is stiff so you have to make sure you are always better than them!
