I am managing several fan pages for my different blogs, actually this can be a tough call. For one of the pages it was fairly easy, as I just invited existing users and they invited many of their friends, but for the rest I just use fan boxes on my blog.

Coming to the idea of buying likes from the exchange sites I would like to say that it is useless. These sites are good for nothing, Initially you will get thousands of likes but those people will not be interested in you and whatever you are sharing and soon they will start unliking your page. So the best way is to first choose your friends wisely, interact with them on a regular basis and make your page visible to them by daily updating & posting something new and interesting, like videos, pictures and creating contests.

I would also recommend buying a link on few other popular facebook pages. Most of the owners are happy to make some cache from your link, and it will be way cheaper then fb ads. You can get many new fans if you choose the pages write.

My facebook page has been active for a month now, and I agree that though it is that easy to create, it is not easy to acquire fans at all. I am working on improving my landing page. Creating a contest and activity sounds like a good idea as well.
Jimmy, do you know of any plugins that automatically post on your facebook page when you upload a new post in wordpress? I can’t find any decent ones via the wordpress plugin search.
