How to Use Google Plus in your Content Marketing Strategy

This is a guest post by Kyle Kam from Affilorama.com

Although it may take Google+ some time to go par with the likes of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social networks, it can be safely said that Google’s own version of socialization is slowly establishing itself to eventually go up the ranks. Considering that its name is backed by the world’s most popular search engine, Google+ now dons a cape of great potential to be as successful as its competitors and if not, even go past them.

Google+ is still an underdog when it comes to public interest and popularity but creating a niche with them as a part of your content marketing strategy is one way to kick off your business along with creating a page in other sites as well; it’s a fresh and novel take that anyone can use to promote, to advertise and to establish anything or anyone.

Embracing the rest of the world and telling them that you and your business are ready and capable enough can start with Google+.

Google Plus

Start from the Ground Up

To put things in perspective, Google+ is still a social media site that is somewhat on the verge of creating a revolution provided that it is given the needed time to grow and adapt.

For those new to Google, it is advisable for you to create a Google email account first for fluidity and syncing processes although you can directly create a Google+ page from the get go.

Again, basic information is required and once completed; Google+ will redirect you to its home page, which is typically a Facebook-like interface with a minimalist approach. This is now the perfect time for you to complete your public profile and since first impressions last, make it a point to have an established contour but not to the extent that you end up bragging yourself and your business.

Be subtle enough to know that you are just starting to make a name for yourself. Make yourself as some sort of eye candy to the rest of the Google+ community by being honest yet with enough flare for them to visit your page.

Market Yourself

The world is a battleground as they say, and stern competition is within every corner, especially in the World Wide Web. This is no ordinary battleground to say the least: most likely, it’s not only you whose career path goes in steady stream with content marketing.

Eventually, you will find common practitioners and contenders that share your goals and ambitions. Post appropriate photos of yourself, share something that is related to your expertise, and add links to your website or blog and even comments coming from some of your satisfied customers. This will also be the right time to go full blast about your profession: what you are offering, services that you are willing to undertake, packages and the like.

Branding yourself as the best in what you do is just part of the game that will make your business to be on top of the food chain.

Create your Circle and Expand

The Circle in Google+ can be associated with the “Add as friend” in Facebook and “Follow” in Twitter. What makes Circles a good thing is that you can modify them according to your preference and develop a following within that circumference and thereby, adding another point onto your content marketing plans. The more circles you have, the wider the possibility it brings for you to be discovered by the rest of the community.

Use the + to your Advantage

The +1 is situated at the lower portion of every posted stream on Google+ and serves as that of the “like” button on Facebook and similar to a Retweet over at Twitter. Take this to your advantage by giving a +1 to posts made by your clients as this builds an invisible interaction and connection between you and the receiver. This will also be as a rapport builder to your current clients and to those potential individuals that can help in boosting your status.

Socialize More

Mixing business with pleasure (in moderation of course) can also be a good thing especially when you are online and onboard the world’s largest community. The Internet is by far the most populated space with millions of visitors daily and with good purpose: to gain information, seek answers to their lingering questions and meet new people, business partners and relationships as well. With Google+ being a social media site, everything and anything is within a click of a button.

Needless to say that when one talks about social media, it speaks of both professional and laid back environment that everyone can earn, learn and enjoy at the same time.

Take this notion into mind when using Google+ as part of your content marketing strategy: post videos, links, establish a Hangout, comment on other people’s stream and share – everything is beneficial and can and definitely will play a major role in molding your business into success.

  1. I think this is very important. Though Google+ is still relatively unexplored, I believe it will become vitally important in the online world in the future. It will give those people who did the preliminary research such a huge advantage over people who attempt to learn the software after it reaches popularity. This is important stuff for people to pay attention to and learn. I hope we all do so.

    1. Yes, i agree that Though Google+ is still relatively unexplored, but i think G+ is make me so confuse, it’s not as simple as facebook or other Social Network. But i’ll try to learn G+ Right Now, and i hope it’s make my marketing plan is got better. Thank’s for the informative Post Guy’s.

    2. Thanks for commenting, Robert. 🙂

That’s right, Robert. Google+ really has the power to be dominant in the future. I even foresee that it’ll have more users than any other Social Networking Sites, when the time comes.

  2. I’m on G+ but definitely don’t use it as much as I should. As for the +! button, it helps you rank higher in Google results which as they’re changing quite often, it’s best to do things Google likes and they love people using +1.

    1. But that plus doesn’t help you to rank for keywords does it? I don’t know how it will help me rank higher in the search engines. Higher for what (and yes, I have read all the books and tutorials).

I have read today that Google places have also now become part of the Plus movement. It’s called Google local, apparently. Still to check it out.

Hi Kyle, it is a fact that if you wanna survive online, you have to socialize more. Question is will it bring in enough to break through the bottom line. But it’s definitely a social web. You cannot rely solely on search engines anymore. Because you might just get slapped, and you never know what is going to do the slap next.

  3. Though unexplored, google+ will of use to IM and by many in the near future. Same as facebook, twitter and any other social media – google+ will own the industry in 2-3yrs.

  4. Nice points to target Google plus for marketing purpose but I have one question here, in FB you have maximum limit of 5k friends for any profile… does such kind of limit exist in Google+ as well.

    1. If Google limits their users, People might not like it. It’s good to use Google plus as part of your Marketing strategy but Google plus is originally launched to compete with Facebook i think. It takes time before Google Plus really gives a remarkable name on Online Marketing as it is not fully effective as Socialization Site but let’s see how Google will handle it.

  5. You are probably right about this. Google plus may seem like is going nowhere right now but Google won’t let up and eventually it will get respectable traffic. How competitive it gets with Facebook no one knows. I mean, who knew Myspace would go down the toilet like that. In any case, right now might be the perfect timing to get started on G+.

  6. Google+ is still growing and more and more people are using it. In my opinion it may be 3rd (in market share) social network, after FB and Twitter.

  7. Well i don’t agree with you Kyle Kam. Google plus is no more an underdog people specially webmasters are endorsing this to their blog readers.

  8. Google plus is another success for Google i think, Since a lot of people are engaged to Social Network, I agree that we can use this as part of our Business Marketing. I also agree that it takes time to drive traffic to our website using Google plus compare to Facebook but if we consistently socialize with other users, we can establish strong connection with our prospect clients. Le’ts see happens with Google plus marketing strategy ^^

  9. We cannot say about future. I may become much more popular then facebook. Guys do you remember orkut, when orkut was there, some people used to say facebook is somwhat difficult then orkut ad hence orkut was much more popular then it. After establishing new features, facebook is now become the most popular social networking site. It it really important to consider google plus in your content marketing. I agree with your article.

  10. Intersting post Kyle and trust me I really like your observations and tips.

I have been using G+ since it was launched and I am really liking it.

Trust me at one point I stopped all the Off-Page Optimization that I was doing, I just concentrated on G+ FB & twitter, TO my surprise when Penguins & Panda’s were creating havoc, i was sailing through smoothly.

May be G+ has a bid hand in it, Google liked the way I was going ahead with G+ and Bingo, I survived!
