Sender Name: abhijote
Sender Email Address: XYZ@gmail.com

i have buy a new domain through name.com please give me a detail procedure to set up it on blogger account..
i really need your help

As I told that I bought this domain from name.com just for $6 with many features.I also got many problems setting that domain and some people might have seen strange things happening at that time but no worries now it’s all perfect.

People are facing problems with name.com because there is no tutorial available for this domain registrar on net. So to help those people’s I m writing this simple tutorial to set-up your blogger custom domain using name.com

*Please Follow the Instructions Carefully*

1.I assume you already have a name.com account and bought one domain name. Login to name.com and you will be directed to your account.

2.Now select the domain from the list to modify.Use the pic. below for reference:

3.Now you will be redirected to the domain management page.Check that the Domain Lock is unlocked. Also check that you are using the default name servers that are ns1.name.com and ns2.name.com without that the URL forwarding wont work.

4.Then from the control panel in the sidebar, click DNS Management. There add a CNAME Record type with record host : www ,Record answer : ghs.google.com ,TTL : 1800 and click submit.

5.Then go back to the domain management again. There from the sidebar click URL Forwarding option. In that Page Fill the Following things:

Point to : http://yourblogname.blogspot.com
Using : redirect URL forwarding (301)
Page Title : (Anything you want,Can be filled afterwords)
Meta Tags : (Can be filled afterwords)

Click Update!

6.Since name.com domains comes with google apps you will have to do more thing.Activate Google Apps for that site. Then move to your Google Apps account of that domain and disable Start Page Feature from it.

7.Wait for few mins. Then go to your blogger account>Settings>Publishing>Advanced Settings>And fill the things similar as i did just change the domain name.

7.Save it!

And check your new domain name.If you get any problem, feel free to ask me or you can also send me your account info via contact link in tabs and i will setup your domain free of charge :)
Or if not you can take help of name.com support.

You might be thinking What’s the difference between a 301 Redirect and a 302 Redirect?

301 Redirect
Redirects to the site you specified in the Forward To field using a “301 Moved Permanently” HTTP response. The HTTP 301 response code tells user-agents (including search engines) that the location has permanently moved.

302 Redirect
Redirects to the site you specified in the Forward To field using a “302 Moved Temporarily” HTTP response. The HTTP 302 response code tells user-agents (including search engines) that the location has temporarily moved.

If I use a 301 redirect on my site to point the www and non-www versions to the same version, do I still need to use this feature?
You don’t have to use it, as we can follow the redirects. However, you still can benefit from using this feature in two ways: we can more easily consolidate links to your site and over time, we’ll direct our crawl to the preferred version of your pages.

If I use this feature, should I still use a 301 redirect on my site?
You don’t need to use it for Googlebot, but you should still use the 301 redirect, if it’s available. This will help visitors and other search engines. Of course, make sure that you point to the same URL with the preferred domain feature and the 301 redirect.

So you got any problem now?

Yea that’s true that i m using blogger due to the reasons you said blogger only sucks in terms of lack of templates and plugins/hacks.I m not thinking of wordpress because i don’t know know anything about it plus i would have to invest in the hosting for it which i m not able to do so as a student..Handling Wordpress is damm hard(I think).Blogger is easy n Fast to understand. :) But in future, i think after a year or so i might think of doing so.

Hi Guru,

Thanks for the posts and I have a question. If I am redirecting using 301 from my custom domain to google blogspot, will the sitemeter or other web counter services calculate my visitor tracking correctly?

Let’s say Average Visitor Per Day, Duration spend on each site, Total visitor per site, etc etc.

I am asking this because as far as I know if we’re redirecting from ghs.google.com to our domain and from our domain 301 to googleblog, we’re using 2 websites. How well will the sitemeter or custom web counter track our visitors accurately?

Thanks for your help,
Gary

Typhoon Reply:

Hi Gary.
For this I would suggest you to get a new tracking script for your custom domain because obviously users who will type and will come from your .blogspot domain will be redirected to your custom domain and hence will be counted automatically but If you use the tracking script which was made for your just .blogspot domain then it might not give you proper results.

Have your properly setup the URL forwarding to your blogspot domain as I mentioned in this post? Please remember that it takes time when you change your name server or DNS server settings. So please wait for approximately 24hrs after changing the name server settings.

If you still get some problem, Send me your blogger and name.com log in details by using the contact form on this blog. I will be happily helping you :)

Typhoon Reply:

I am not getting a Redirect Loop right now. I am getting a Server Not Found error. So please check it.

Redirect Loop occurs when your server is not able to respond properly. So please chk that.

Hi there, For custom domains, i read here, http://www.bloggerbuster.com/2007/06/how-to-set-u... that you can either use http://yoursite.com or http//:www.yoursite.com…is there any way we can make both work?

Also, with name.com, the custom domain price is $8.99, you say you bought it for $6 how, that would be coo!

Thanks.
