Checking the “nofollow” Factor

By Typhoon On November 9, 2008 Under SEO Tips

If you’ve been doing any kind of reading about link building, then you’ve probably seen people mentioning “nofollow” and “dofollow” links. These are very important terms to understand when you are trying to build great links back to your site in order to increase your search engine rankings. But, to the person who is new to all of this, it may be kind of confusing. I am going to help you break it down.

“Dofollow” are simply the links which are crawled by Search Engines and “Nofollow” are simply the opposite of it.So I think you would obviously prefer most of the times a “dofollow” blog if you are trying to build links for your blog.

As many people might be knowing my Blog is completely a “dofollow” blog but the question arises How should I Check it?

The Solution is here:

Solution 1

1.Go to the website/blog you’d like to visit.

2.If you’re a firefox browser user then click VIEW from the Menu Bar, go to PAGE SOURCE. (For IE users, choose SOURCE)

3.Using your keyboard, Press CTRL + F.

4.Type any “Name of the commentator” from that post in the “Find tool”.Also make sure that the commentator gave the URL to his site in his comment.

5.And Now look at the example’s below which will help you to decide whether it is nofollow or dofollow.

Example of DoFollow URL of the commentator:
<a href="http://www.smartbloggerz.com/" rel="follow">Smart Bloggerz</a>

Example of NoFollow URL of the commentator:
<a href="http://www.smartbloggerz.com/" rel="nofollow">Smart Bloggerz</a>

But Sometimes it becomes complicated, tiring also boring using this.So If you don’t like this method then try the other Solution below.

Solution 2

There are some Firefox Add-ons which will help you decide the same in a easy and fast way.

Some of them are “NoDoFollow” and “SearchStatus

After install, restart Firefox for your settings to take effect .

Now to use the “NoDoFollow” add-on move on to any web page , right click anywhere and select NoDoFollow to activate this addon & see how it works in below screenshot.

The red color means it is nofollow and blue means it is dofollow.

To use the “SearchStatus” add-on Look at the firefox status bar, right click SearchStatus icon, check HIGHLIGHT NO FOLLOW LINKS and then go to the website/blog you’d like to visit and see its effects below in screenshot.

So you decide which solution you like and would like using and keep commenting on blogs. Now it’s your choice whether you want it to be nofollow or dofollow.

I am using Search Status in my Firefox and it helps me a lot to discover no follow links but when it comes to chrome which I use most often finding nofollow links is tougher one. Since chrome started to support extensions I am sure I can get some extensions for it.
