Google May 2009 Toolbar PageRank Update – I am still PR4

Few hours back, I came to know from the comment of Matt that there was a PageRank update few days back. Then I thought How could it be possible since Google recently on April 1st updated the PageRank. Then after surfing through many forums I came to know that Yes, there was a Toolbar PageRank Update.

Actually I don’t know what actually a “Toolbar PageRank Update” means but from Seroundtable I got this info about it:

A Toolbar PageRank update means nothing in terms of your ranking changing anytime soon. The PageRank scores shown in the toolbar are outdated and have zero direct impact on your Google rankings. That doesn’t mean that PageRank has no influence, but the toolbar score does not have any influence. Google shows us one thing, but yet uses another thing.

My PageRank is still the same i.e PR4 as it was on April 1st Update.

What about you? Did any of your blog lost or gain PR? Do let me know 🙂

  1. Hi and well done on your PR.

It’s nice to hear that you did not get slapped by Google. I think you could of gone higher, but staying the same is also good. I haven’t seen much people complain this time around, most of my friends have all gone up 1.

    1. Ya this time I feel lucky that there wasn’t any drop in my PR because I thought that I have made my blog do-follow and which might affect my PageRank because number of External links also plays a major role in the PR game..

Great to see that your friends didn’t lost the PR also. Congratulate them from my side 🙂

  2. I wanted to check on “Atniz” (another great PR 4 blog), but their Web Host (Host Gator) was posting an “error message” all day yesterday

    1. Ya I know that Atniz was down yesterday due to some technical reason with their host – hostator. But now the blog is up. Also, sadly the blog lost one PR point and is back to PR3.

  3. We used to be a PR 4 when we were a static website. We had about a thousand links back then. We didn’t link out much so the ratio was 100 inbound links per outbound link. Then we added a blog and we link out a lot. We know have thousands of backlinks but the ratio shrunk to about 10 to 1 or so and we are now at PR 2.

However, we rank on the first page of Google for a dozen searches that include SEO in the Query like Local SEO. For me it just shows how overblown PR is.
