How To Write An Article When You Have A Creative Block

There are probably two obstacles that you come across often when you write articles for your blog; Lack of Inspiration and Plenty of Inspiration. Sometimes, you do not know what to write about and sometimes while writing article, your end or the whole article doesn’t say anything creative about the topic.

Before you can break a creative block, you need to be consciously aware of why they happen.

  • You are Stressed or feeling sick
  • You are having lots of issues in your occupational, financial… life
  • You have no plan for a specific piece of work
  • Lack of knowledge of a topic, or concern that you don’t know enough
  • You are not able to write up down your thoughts properly

Actually, there could be many more reasons than what I have listed above. It’s all up to every human nature and his surrounding.

In this article, I will share 5 easy steps which could help you battle against Creative Block:

Step 1. Decide Your Aim Like A Shooter

Once you open your blog’s post editor, The first step is to write in one sentence, what’s the purpose of your article. Imagine what you would have a person answering the question when you will ask him, : “What was the article about?”

While writing this article I am using this method. My “goal” is to “explain a methodology to overcome creative block “. In the same, decide your so that you don’t shift your focus to something else.

Step 2. Take Reference From your Inspiration

I am sure that you must be having some inspirational bloggers and writers. Take help of their notes, articles, talks, quotes or from any source to make new ideas. Also, if you think you can give them the credit for the inspiration then try to link to their articles or state that “This article was inspired by…”.

Step 3. Brainstorm

Brainstorming is a process for developing creative solutions to anything you want. It works by focusing on a problem, and then deliberately coming up with as many solutions as possible and by pushing the ideas as far as possible.

The most important rule of brainstorming is that quantity is more important than quality. Do not decide right now if you used an idea for your article or not previously, the important thing is that you get ideas that describes your topic and so write anything related to the topic that blinks in your mind saying Eureka 😉

If you’re dealing with a problem of lack of inspiration, this is the most important section. Focus on making it grow. Use your references to associate ideas which will put you back in the state of mind where you were when you decided to write about it. Take help of flow charts, diagrams and pictures to get some new concepts. Analyze your thoughts and opinions, and write what pops into your mind.

Step 4. Organize What You Have

Now, when you have got a lot of ideas it’s time to select important one’s and organize them. Try making connections in those ideas and group similar kind of ideas. It is likely to be a back and forth between this and the previous step. You will see that there are ideas which will pop up when you start making the connection and this means your brain have started to make interest in the article. Once you have organized the ideas  decide if you will make a list, an opinion, a tutorial, and so on.

If you’re dealing with a problem of plenty of inspiration this is the most important section. Contrary to the previous step where you were looking for quantity over quality, now is the time to take only the best ideas. Stay focused on your goal and use it to decide whether something stays or goes. Try answering the important questions of your article which may raise in a reader’s mind.

Step 5. Write It Down Properly

Finally take your organized theme and begin to develop each idea. Create paragraphs, including examples, quick steps etc.. Until this step is when you will begin to pay attention to the wording and spelling. Link to where you need to bind, and so on. In simple words, try making it looks a Good Article.

Conclusion

It is likely that already did something like this. However, the key to this method is the clear separation of time when looking to exploit your imagination and expand your ideas.

In my case, before starting to use this method in one step was exploration of the topic, organizing and writing the article.We ended up spending much time perfecting a paragraph and then leave it out because the article did not relate well with the rest.

Sometimes it is easy to jump right to write an article for which we are familiar with the subject. But if not, this method can eliminate the frustration.

  3. I’ve found that my own creativity comes in waves as well. The other day, I was in the bookstore and had a ton of them, so I jotted article ideas on my iphone to trigger my creativity later.

    1. Ya, Visiting A Library or Bookstore can help you in maximizing your ideas potential. You can really get hundreds of ideas from those authors books. But we have to keep in mind that we have to present it in our own way or should quote the ideas of that author..

  6. You are right about the brainstorming being more quantity than quality…the more the better, then you can use the best ideas that you come up with. Organization is also huge and will help you tremendously when it comes to structure of the work. Your site is fantastic, do you also write articles on some of the article sites?

    1. It’s can comes everywhere. When going for dinner, maybe the food or beverages giving idea. Or maybe the sky? Another guest on dinning room? Everything….

      But there is also a people who can get idea simply, just like me in toilet 😛
      So it’s based on people also. Agree?
      Anyway, i recommend all who have creative block to read book titled “WHACK”. After read, your creativity will appear.

  8. Mobile phones are great as you can jot down ideas even while on the go. You can’t really predict when the right time comes.

    2. It’s good idea. Honestly, believe or no, i’m oftenly get idea on toilet when i’m ….. (censored) hehe :D. I just bring my cellphones and write it down.
      Or using jahangiri idea to record the voice is good, since we’re know writing on cellhpnes is not that comfortable.

    Also try writing like you speak (only without all the “um, ah, well, er, hmm…” filler-type stuff). Don’t edit (as in, tie your inner critic to a chair in a dark corner of your mind and put duct tape over his or her mouth – promise to let the inner critic loose again once the ideas are on paper and it’s time to edit).

  10. #4 is helpful for my plenty ideas problem. My blog is about anything, have no specific topic, that’s why maybe there is a hundred idea. But still, my blog is not updated 1x/day or at least 1x/week. Why? Yes, maybe it’s what you’re mention as creative block.
