How You Can Protect Our Planet Earth As A Blogger

Everyone is aware about How bad the environmental condition is getting of our Planet Earth. As you will be aware of the recent conference being held at Copenhagen in Denmark where they will be talking about how they can reduce the carbon emission and various other ways to Save The Planet Earth.

And if you still aren’t aware about it, then you are probably a greedy person who don’t care about all this and only like to live in your luxurious life, but remember that your luxurious life won’t stay long if something really, really, really bad happens with Earth .

But It’s really a serious issue one should look at it with full respect. As a blogger, you can take 3 Simple Steps which can contribute really big towards saving our planet.

1. Use Green Hosting

As a blogger, one can choose Green Hosting for their blogs. It means that choosing those Web Hosting Companies which are using electricity for running their servers and offices produced from environmental friendly resources like Windmills. One of the main and best leader in web hosting companies and is still Green is HostGator.

HostGator is powering their servers and offices with the electricity produced from the Windmills situated at Texas city. All of their shared and reseller servers are 130% wind powered!

According to HostGator, It’s the equivalent of:

  1. Removing 444 cars from the road for a year, or
  2. Powering 321 homes with clean energy for a year, or
  3. Saving 5,654 barrels of oil, or
  4. Protecting 551 acres of forest for a year

Just imagine how big you will be contributing by using such hosting. And I am proud to say that I am also a HostGator Customer. They are really good as hosting company. They are cheap, reliable and supportive, Plus they are Green! What else do you want?

2. Change Up The Lighting

When you are blogging, consider switching off those big lights(tube lights) and instead of it, try using CFL bulbs which provides really good light which is sufficient enough to let you blog properly and also it consumes very less electricity. You can also take this one step ahead by switching off the wall lights and bringing in a Table Light or A light which can be focused easily anywhere i.e you will get the required light at your workplace.

This can really help reduce the carbon emission as you will be saving electricity and the best part is that you will be saving lot of money on Electricity Bills. That means you are Making Money Taking such steps 😉

3. Configure Your PC

According to some studies, it has been found that reducing/adjusting the brightness and contrast of your monitor screen helps in saving electricity. Also, a study conducted at TechLogg stated that use of LCD monitors or Energy Efficient monitors can help in reducing the energy consumption. Other than that you can use low electricity consuming computer parts for your PC like Cooling Fan etc.

The Green Conclusion

I hope as blogger, we can contribute big part towards making the earth better from how it is right now. We can’t just talk on this matter of global warming as it has been already too late and one must start taking the steps from right now.

Let me know your thoughts. Tell me your ways so that we can protect our plant earth as a blogger.

  1. Blogger can also contribute a real things. We know there is many blogger offline club, right? How about if there is “go green blogger day” event? And in that day, there is offline meeting special for blogger to talk about go green. And also, after meeting, blogger can do something together such :
    – Plant 100 trees
    – All blogger walking day, no car/motor in that day
    – Make “go green” mini festival
    – Etc..

  2. Great, I didn’t know the thing about the HostGator. Anyway, blogging itself can help protect earth. I mean, as a blogger, you can write ways how to protect our environment and all. I’m pretty sure that if readers will get reminded with fancy posts, then at least 3% of your readers will apply the steps. Blogging is one influencial media.

      1. Ya I love to be as eco-friendly as possible. I like gardening very much, so I use to take care of my plants from time to time. Almost 5-6 months back I planted a Neem Tree in the soil by taking out from the pot as it didn’t grew much into it and also it was going to dry up, so I went on one Sunday and it took me almost 2-3 hrs for taking that plant out from that pot(as the roots were so tights in pot soil). But I am feeling it nice because soon it will grow up big and I could breathe some Fresh Air.

  3. excellent post you described the total requirement and control the leading bad boom which treat our planet according to me this problem will be rectify when each and every one of us take the responsibility to control the carbon emission. so we just think about the consequence and the life of forthcoming generation.

  4. actually…we a bloggers. we have influence on community. so direct people in right way..we must take care of our planet. go green!

  5. Also laptops use on average about 1/3 the energy that desktops use – and yes, Hostgator is great I have been using them for years, I did not know some of there grid was powered by wind mills though, good stuff to know 🙂

  6. First I want to thank you for the opportunity to comment on your blog. Next I will pat myself on the back by saying that I have been using Hostgator for all of my blogging life, two years. I started when I was 63, a late start I know, but better late than never. One other point is that I have plans to build an electricity generating windmill. I intend to move to Florida soon to take advantage of solar energy, wind energy, and will grow my own veggies. My dad built his own solar hot water heater and i gues i got the encouragement from him. I encourage others to do what there location allows to save the environment. It just make a lot of sense.

  7. Wow, I didn’t know that Hostgator is using green energy, I just love those stats for the energy they are saving. I am not using them right now but that will be my next move in the spring when my actual hosting contract expires, I was told many times that they are the best for the IM industry add that to the energy saving, one just can’t go wrong, really.
Also thanks for the tips about the computer monitor.

  8. Some hosting companies have been started in the last year with the primary goal of being green, however, Bluehost has a solid reputation that these small startups cant compete with.

  9. This is a great article with some very good, valid points on how to keep green at work and at home on your pc. Thanks for the tips and we are going to make sure our work and home pc’s and monitors are set as best we can to keep them green 🙂

I already use energy saver lights at home when on my pc (well just in general I use them) and I have also setup my pc to use less power and save money when its not being used on large programs (but the power settings have to go up for my gaming now and them so not to fry my pc).

We also make sure we get good eco friendly monitors for home and work use, like the industrial monitors we have at KMW, they are all green and we are very eco friendly and have been for some time now.

Thanks again for a great read and please keep up with the quality ideas if you have more to help stay green around the home and work.

Also would just like to add quickly if its ok? I have used Sensational-hosting.co.uk for personal hosting they seem like a good green company to host with. Also I found this site Carbonadvicegroup.com which is very nice and handy for checking and keeping green. (hope it was ok to link to them here as some blogs dont like it but its for a good cause so I hope its ok?)
