Time Management For Bloggers And Marketers

This is guest blogged by Melvin from MelvinBlog.com, a super duper cool blog. 🙂

These days, I have observed many school kids, college graduates and even the individuals who are doing regular 9 to 5 jobs are considering blogging and internet marketing as a source of part time income. However, I am not saying that this is not a wise decision to make but as we all know that blogging and internet marketing requires sufficient time and efforts from your side if you want to succeed.

In this piece of writing, I will (try to) shed some light on the most important issue which is associated with blogging and internet marketing, “time management”.

As we all are aware that time management is an important aspect of every virtue of life, so we cannot overlook this aspect in online businesses as well. Time management for bloggers and internet marketers is very important because they have to take care of multiple things at one time. If they will fail to devote sufficient amount of time to their online business then they will not get the outcomes as they desire and on the other hand, if they devote all their time to their online business then they will not actively participate in their daily routine activities.

Considering the above mentioned scenario in my mind, I would like to elaborate the importance of time management for bloggers and internet marketers and how they can manage their time in an organized manner so they can take care of their online business as well as their daily routine activities.

1. For School Going Kids

If you are a kid  going to school everyday, then you must devote sufficient amount of time to your studies, it is your first responsibility. After coming back from your school session, take some rest and have your meal. Then, get rid of your home work (if you have any). After getting rid of all these issues, devote 1-2 hours to your online business.

For students, 1-2 hours will be enough because they are still at their learning stage and too much on anything can cause stress in the child. Remember, as a kid, making money SHOULD NEVER be a serious goal. The reason you’re blogging is for early exposures that can benefit you in the future.

2. For College Students

For college students, it’s much easier to manage their time and organize their daily routine schedule properly. College students can take care of their online business while they are at their college or university. They can divert their attention towards the computer lab of the college of university in their free time and can take care of their online business quite comfortably. T

his will assure that they are utilizing their free time to their most. This is easier since college life is a life of more freedom where as you could do a lot without hurting your studies that much.

3. For People Working In A Job

For individuals who are doing regular 9 to 5 job, It’s important that these types of individuals must understand the importance of time management if they want to keep a balance in their personal and professional life. Their responsibilities are more as compared to school going children and college graduates.

For them, it would be hard to manage time for business but if they put some efforts then this won’t be a difficult task. They must devote sometime to their online business on regular basis, maybe 2-3 hours. But, they must put some extra efforts in their weekends. In this way, they would devote sufficient amount of time to their online business as well as to their daily routine activities.

Conclusion

Time management for bloggers and internet marketers is very important. Proper time management will assure you a stress free life as it makes sure you’re maximizing everything without hurting your other responsibilities and stressing yourself. What do you think? What’s your own tactic that you’re using?

    1. Doing irrelevant things can really be a struggle but as long as you find some consistency not doing it, you can completely eliminate it..

          1. You should control yourself, tell yourself that it’s not your priority and you have more important things you need to do.

      1. The thing I can’t eliminate is using computer, I dunno, but I feel incomplete when I do not use my laptop in a day. I think, it’s addiction already but I badly need to get away from it as it’s getting bad for my offline life.
        .-= Jenn´s last blog ..MOVED! =-.

      2. I agree with that. All you have to have is a system. Once you are used of what you are doing then you won’t find it hard to eliminate irrelevant things from your everyday routines.

          1. @Senthil what I mean by unhealthy routines is uhm like, doing irrelevant things. Routines is what you are doing everyday in a consistent schedule. For example, my routine is to use computer after I wake up then eat then watch tv then computer then play then eat then before I sleep very late at night, I will do my school works. (It’s only an example, huh. It’s not my real routine =D) So there, if my routine is like that, is it healthy? is it right? It is NOT healthy obviously because you can notice that I do school works late at night instead of doing it first and do unnecessary things at my free time, if only I have.

          2. @jenn

routine is unhealthy, In a situation you mentioned above… We have prioritize our work… Have to categorize which is important immediately and which is not so important

you are right friend… Setting up a system will help in always… But its very difficult to follow the system.. But once we follow the system we will find easy to manage our schedule..

        2. Having a system really helps to save a lot of time!

Just write down what you do (to set up your blog, write an article or what ever), and after you finished your task, overlook it and think about what you can do better the next time – After doing this a few times, you should get a well system to finish your task as fast as possible!

Another important point is the tracking and analysis – Find out what works and concentrate on it!

  1. Time management is a big issue for me. Between school and work (40+ hrs) I find it hard to find the time to work on my blogs. Generally I spend all my free time reading blogs and now commenting on them as well. As of today, I decided to setup a schedule for my blogging times. 1 hour in the morning that is optional every day, 1 hour in the evening that is mandatory, and the weekends as much I can to create and research future blog posts.

Thanks for the Time Management break down.

  2. I also advice the school students and other guys who are studying that first keep attention at your study and after that blogging, yes blogging is one good habit, but it do not means that you spend your time on blogging leave your study.

        1. My school is basically a dummy school i.e Not much importance on how much attendance you have in the school, only you have to pass out the annual examination. The time I save from not going to school regularly is utilized in self study and then later on the time is given to blogging work.

          1. I agree that schools are a top priority but not india, you see in India education has been simply made tough. A person with a c india can get an a elsewhere, thats because Indian schools teach you everything that you never use, we are in need of a serious educational reform.

            1. Yeah, I also completely think like that. Indian Education system is really sick r8 now. Just think, why a person who wants to become a Software Engineer have to learn Laws of Gravitation or Thermodynamics which is absolutely of no use in that field.

              1. Exactly what i mean pal, my teachers, my parents and my friends think that i’m not very intelligent because i never get more than 50 in maths, phy, chem and bio, but what really bothers me is that they never realize that i’ve always got above 90 in economics, commerce and History, they think thats of no use. India most parents want their kids to become only a doctor or a techie guy, they have no intentions to let their kids explore. This is the main reason Indians lack creativity and innovation, we definitely need a lot of educational reforms. Have you ever wondered why only few Indians were capable of winning the noble prize.

                1. Maybe we will need a big platform to bring this thing to people like through big blogs, news papers etc. Films like Tare Zameen Par and now 3 Idiots(which will be releasing soon) are trying to send out such message to Indian people but don’t know when it will properly give good impact to our parents ;(

    1. Yes of course, studying must be the top priority of teenagers or those who are still in school. Blogging shall be done on spare times only.
      .-= Jenn´s last blog ..MOVED! =-.

      1. But i have a question. If you’re school kids, but already have an online business which earn you $xx,xxx in a month, and then you find that you’re need more time to manage your online business, will you still treat school as main priority?

Maybe this help you to answer : School –> get knowledge –> good knowledge = easy to finding job –> get earning

        1. It doesn’t mean that if you prioritize things you must spend longer time in it than the others. Prioritizing is doing most important thing and accomplishing it without talking about how long it was.

For me, at my age, school is my priority above all. But in the case you gave, if it’s more important to spend more time to my online business, then there’s no problem as long as I do my school tasks first.

In the end, you should have time management. 😀

  3. Great post, having a plan is quite important because at times there is so much work to do you just don’t know where to begin and don’t get much of anything done.

    1. Make it on a list with priority point. After you done each point, checklist it. Do it until all point is checklisted and you’ll find your job already finished. It’s better to make very detailed point, because writing too general will sound a burden for you.

      F.e :
General : Change my wordpress template <– have no detail about what to do, and sometime become burden

If you make it like this :
      – Go to google and collect 10-15 wordpress themes
      – Choose the best 5 in 10 minute
      – Choose the best in 5 minute
      – Go to wordpress accound login
      – Apply the template
      – Check the result

    2. Oh, this happens to me most of the time. I have lots of things to do but I do not know where to start so at the end of the day, I will just realize that I did nothing.

  4. Time management is really very important if you want a well-balanced life. What I always do is I make a schedule on the tasks for the day and follow it. This way, I do not neglect my household chores while doing attending to my online businesses. And once you do this, it will all become a habit. You will get used to finishing everything for your online businesses in the time that you allotted.

          1. Talking about that quote, I wanna share this joke, I’m not sure if you’ve heard of this.. ” Practice make perfect, but nobody’s perfect, so why practice? ” haha! That’s actually a joke. Just sharing. Anyway, perfect doesn’t really mean perfect but doing you’re best is, I think.

  5. I have a day job and blog mostly after hours. It’s sometimes hard to juggle a job, blogging and still have time for myself and friends. We need to know when enough is enough and that is only done once you have set aside time for each.

I also forgot to mention that I still have to do the cleaning, washing, ironing, etc. I’m a single guy so I even have to do the cooking.

  6. I have experimented with time mangement but oddly what works best for me is write down a list according to priority and then scratch out what you have accomplished one by one. I know this may sound primitive but strangely writing it down helps me reinforce my memory. Nobody has immaculate memory. At best we only remember what is urgent and rushed. That is why I write down tasks if they are not part of my routine and tackle them one at a time in between whatever other routine tasks I perform. There are a lot of ways you can do this, some use calenders and some use diaries. I just use the simplest form of scribbling it on a piece of paper. Ha HA try it for it might just work.

        1. Since I am a computer geek, I installed a calendar on my desktop wherein I put my to-do-list and events-to-attend, but I do not set alarm, so sometimes it’s helpful because I am reminded what things I need to accomplish but still I fail to do it most of the time.
