With the improvement in technology, more people are using the World Wide Web for information, entertainment, research and career opportunities. Now-a-days the internet provides us many things, with the help of which we can generate a handsome income.
Blogging is one of these many ways to earn money online. The simplest way to start your blogging career is to make a blog out of a blog. However, the hardships come after this step. You should be patient otherwise you shall ruin up everything that you are working for.
You should keep the following things (we learned while developing our discount coupon blog that features weight watchers and ediets discount coupons) in mind if you want to have a successful blogging career:

Don’t Raise Your Hopes Too High
Don’t let your hopes fly too high. You will be tempted enough to earn five figures from your blogging career when you start your blog. It will become an involuntary reaction on your part to expect too much. However, you need to be rational. Is it a valid expectation to earn so much from a new blog?
Don’t be in a hurry, because the more you expect with impatience the more disappointment you will get. This will take a toll on your incentive in the initial months because it is the hardest time to keep up.
Provide Your Visitors With Captivating Content
To attract visitors, you should make sure that the content in your blog is interesting, erudite, informative and captivating. If you provide good information in every blog then readers will constantly visit your blog to check for more updates and interesting content. You should also add charm to appeal your readers and keep a habit of writing intriguing content with crisp and catchy titles. This is a secret to outrun your competitors.
Take Time Before Writing Anything
Providing content for your blog should not be taken lightly. Try to become an expert in your field. Don’t write blog posts every ten minutes. If you want traffic to flow in for your blog you should provide your visitors with valuable and useful content. You just can’t provide your audience with anything and expect them to flood in to read your blog.
If you want desired results don’t write anything in a hurry. This will make your audience lose interest. Before writing the content go in-depth, do every type of research possible; create a solid base for your content. Add relevant links and add pictures if possible.
Think Before You Publish
When you start a new blog you devote your full-time towards publishing. You keep on publishing every day or two times a day or even three times a day. You keep on searching for new ideas, topics and publish everything interesting that you come across. However, if you notice that no one is reading your blogs, do not let your incentive and all your inspiration go down.
Don’t let your hope die. Even if you find yourself lacking of topics do not stop publishing. When you start a new blog you should keep your publishing frequency quite low. You should post once per week or maybe sometime twice. Start publishing in a low pace and when you find that viewers are showing interest then increase your frequency gradually.
Add Design
Add diverse and clever designs matching with the style and topic of your blog. Add templates and graphics according to the need. See how it works out. You can impress your readers with the design you create for your blog. This will be appealing to your readers’ mind while they go through your captivating content.
Modify Your Blog
Add changes not only to your design but also to everything that is related to your blog. The same appearance of your blog can have a negative impact on your readers and they can gradually lose interest. So keep on revising. However, do not jump-start, first notice how a change is working out before applying another change.
Be Patient Before Expecting Results
Blogging can’t make you rich instantly. Keep this in mind and all your unnecessary restlessness and stress will subside. It takes more than a month to receive organic traffic. Choose a niche that you are passionate about, so that it reflects on your posts. You probably won’t get any result before six months. However, after you cross this phase you can have amazing results, provided you wait patiently for it.
Your first 2 points are very true. I sometimes expect so much from something that when it doesn’t happen it’s like the whole world falls down on me. And I also am sucked into sites with captivating content, definitely a big plus. If it’s both got good design, plus the author writes catchy and very appealing stuff- it’s never a bore to visit.
Hi Gil!
Thank you for posting your comments. We should not expect to reap more than what we sow. The results (output) are directly proportional to the quality content (input) delivered by a blogger.
Jane.
You make some very valid points. One of the most important things about blogs is offering good content, if you don’t have anything interesting, funny or informative to say then people aren’t going to come back for more. If you’re offering good content people will want to come back.
Hi Jen!
Thank you for your comments. Yes! you are correct. Content is the heart of the blogging. Unless you have useful stuff spiced with entertainment value, audience will not engage…
Jane.
great advice, guess i`ll have to be patient to see the pennies come rolling in, i need to pick a niche that i´m passionate about too, thanks for your help
Hi Julie!
Thanks for your comments. Patience and presentation. These two are very important. If you are able to offer good stuff that is not available anywhere, your job is made easy. One should focus more giving. Then, the returns will comeback automatically.
Jane.
Indeed I think that patience is a virtue when it comes to blogging and the lack of it is the cause of failure for most projects. Usually for somebody with little experience, the first three months are absolutely dreadful in terms of traffic and income, but if they’re patient and keep it going, they will have a lot more chances to succeed. Good article!
Thank you for sharing your useful thoughts. You are true that patience especially in the initial stages of blogging is more important.
Hi Jane, great post.
One more thing that I see overlooked by new bloggers who are looking to earn with their sites is the lack of a clear revenue model. You need to know exactly how you intend to make a living with it. You either need a product or service to sell. Relying on advertising, or even affiliate income usually won’t be enough in the beginning, they take time to develop while you are building up your traffic levels. (Where the patience comes in) 🙂
Yes Warren!
You are correct. The job is made easy if there is a product or service that is unique in the market. There should be something special in the product or service that you are offering which should add value to the audience.
Patience is definitely the key ingredient in my opinion. The most important thing is for the content to be engaging and captivating. You really have to take the time to explore your own creativity when writing and without patience it will be a big flop!
Hi Lannon!
Yes. It is true that patience is required not only in wating for results but also taking time to prepare a wonderful and useful article. Sometimes, the content can be prepared very quickly when your head is really filled with many new ideas, thoughts, observations, etc.
Thank you for your comments.
Jane.
The best way to become a successful blogger is to love what you are writing about and not just build a blog because there is a profitable niche.
Additionally making a full time income from the blog itself (adsense, advertising etc) is very rare and only a few of the very top blogs manage to do that.
For that reason if you really want to make a full time income you should see your blog as a way to brand your self or your business, in that way you could sell easier your products or services to your own readers especially if you build relations with them or with other bloggers on your niche.
Hi Kostas!
Thank you for your practical suggestions. The two P’s Patience and Passion are important to achieve success in both personal and professional life. When you have passion you will deliver the best. When you have patience, you will wait till you get through.
Jane.
In my opinion on the early time of your blogging career you should blog and publish quality post in high frequency but still don’t expect to much from it. Readers may not be able to see your work because you are not ranking high yet with google or other search engine. One factor in order to rank high with search engine is you should update your blog frequently with added seo. Just like Jane have said even if things are not going your way just don’t lose hope.
Hi Mattscradle!
Thank you for sharing your opinion. You are right that in the beginning of a blogging career, one will not get expected traffic even though you post killing articles. Consistent posting of quality articles and consistent SEO measures will definitely help you grow fast.
Jane.
Hey Jane Sheeba, nice article. Learn many thing from your article.
In my opinion, to start your blogging career is to make a blog out of a blog. If you provide good information in every blog then readers will constantly visit your blog to check for more updates and interesting content. When you start a new blog you should keep your publishing frequency quite low.
Hi Rajib!
I am happy to hear that you learned many things through my post.
You are right. Presentation of quality articles is more important than the number of articles that you publish per week.
Jane.
What is the period in which we should not think of getting any results as in income ? 6 months or more than tht !
Hi James!
Revenue generation from a blog depends on many factors. It varies from blog to blog. It depends on the type of niche that you are focussing on.
Six months are too short to expect results. Once you start blogging, you will come to know about various adjustments and requirements you have to fulfill to fine tune your blog to attract audience.
In addition to quality content, you have to appease search engines and you can use best available online tools to promote your blog.
