Deciding that you want to become a professional blogger is an exciting career step that can welcome you into a life of enjoying your occupation, maximizing your free time, and generating a very comfortable income all online.
You may quickly find, however, that just owning a blog is not enough to get you settled into a career as a successful blogger.
Of course, you do not have to have the goal of being a professional blogger in order for a blog to be a beneficial feature of your business activities. In fact, many companies are now integrating the use of blogs as a key feature in their larger promotional strategies.
Whether you want to generate your income purely from blogging or if you are using a blog as a support platform, it is essential that you learn to handle your blog well so that you can maximize its potential for growth and success.
Like all bloggers you will start by building your blog. You have chosen your niche, have an audience in mind, and may even know what you want your first few posts to be about.
What now?
For the most effective blog you can have you will want to focus on developing a page that is visually appealing and cohesive. Premium WordPress themes instead of free one’s are a fantastic way for you to build your blog so that it starts out looking impressive, and remains easy to manage.
An incredibly useful feature of WordPress is that you can prepare blog posts well ahead of time and schedule them for publication at a later date. This allows you to prepare your content and ensure that you are constantly providing fresh, valuable material even when you do not have the time to write new posts every day. To make the most of this feature, and handle your blog in the most effective way possible, you should dedicate some time to creating a thorough content plan.

What is a Content Plan?
A content plan is a thought-out, strategic approach to what you will publish and when. While this does not necessarily require that you do the actual writing ahead of time, it does give a clear concept of how your blog will unfold over a period of time and lets you do as much of the writing as you would like to in advance.
Why Have One?
Having a content plan for your blog is beneficial for many reasons:
- It aides in time management, which can be especially beneficial if you are building several blogs.
- It gives you a distinct outline of the information that will be presented, when, and how. This can let you coordinate specific content with product releases, holidays, and other considerations.
- Providing consistent, high quality content on a regular basis gives your blog reputation a boost and will encourage readers to become loyal.
Tips for Developing Your Content Plan
Preparing your content plan can take a couple of days, but the benefits are well worth this time. Your first step in developing your content plan is to ask yourself the following questions:
- How often will you publish content?
- What is your specific niche?
- What is the purpose of the content?
- How will you choose keywords?
- How can the content be repurposed?
Once you have answered these questions you can actually develop the plan. These guidelines can help you to create a content plan that will help you to manage your blog effectively for the long-term:
- Write your plan on a large calendar that you can consult often.
- Determine how your content will work with your other marketing strategies.
- Create content that supports new products and services as well as existing ones.
- Remain flexible and leave room for adjustment if you suddenly get inspiration for new posts.
- Get ahead of your schedule and develop a bank of posts that can be used when there is a gap or you do not want to write on a particular day.
Good Post Dear Lonel .As a Blogger its always vital to make a schedule and to do list .We have to keep in mind that about what we have to post without being away from our Niche .
Totally agree, there is too many blogs without any structure or real aims. Plan Plan Plan. I would say that trying to find your niche and sticking to it is a difficult task! You need good keyword research!
Its really good to learn many of the content development strategies. I am running many of the blogs & one of my main strategy involve keyword research. I used to develop on the basis of keyword research. Once I decide the keywords & title, I start researching on the ideas how can I prepare a content that can completely satisfy my visitors.
Hey Olga-
Great and informative post. I agree with you that having a content plan is really important and this is even more important to people who run more than one blog or are guest posting. Thanks to the wordpress features that has made this possible.
Cheers.
Very good article. I’m doing this TODAY! I get so focused on a few things that I forget the overall picture. Developing a content plan for my blog is JUST what I needed to hear. Thanks!
This blog post really resonate with me as I have everything you mention above excepting a plan for blogging. My blogging frequency is scattered right now. What’s the best way to manage my time an produce blog post more consistently without feeling the “opportunity cost?”
Hello Svetlana,
It is very important to prioritize your activities and things you have to do during your day. So you should define how often you would like to post on your blog or how often your readers would like you to update the information.
Depending on that, you should prepare the posts in advance and be ready to publish on the scheduled date. You could find some hours during the day when you have inspiration and write some good stuff for your readers.
I agree that one of the great features of WordPress is that you can load up content to be published whenever you want. Keeping the fresh articles coming out is a must. Having a plan can help you to keep an eye on the bigger picture, so that you can balance out your articles and make sure that you are hitting on a variety of important topics.
Hi Olga,
Nice and informative post..!!!
creating a content plan is really important otherwise a time will come when we get easily messed up with the things that we have only started. Once when i was doing without any content plan got so messed up that i thought of discontinuing the writing.
Hi Olga,
I have always come across phrases like “content is king”, “rich content” etc. But you gave a thorough insight about how to make such contents come up in your blogs. Many talk about it. You told how to actually work on it. People take up the career, start up the career, in fact sometimes ruin up their careers without knowing the essentials and basic elements of success and achievements. You put light on one such element. Its something that must be used as a follow up on a regular basis. Its many a times the usually left out element that you raised efficiently. Helpful! Informative Post.!
Thanks to share such piece of work.
A blog that does not have good content strategy behind it will not reach all of its potential. A strategy helps make the commitment of writing a blog easier because it takes out the part of blogging that takes up the most time- blog brainstorming.
