7 Tips To Improve Your Chances Of Being A Successful Blogger!

There’s about 250,000+ bloggers blogging everyday on WordPress.com with each creating, on average, 1-2 posts. Some of these are bloggers, while others are successful bloggers. The successful ones are those who have a dedicated group that follows them, interacts with them, and keeps visiting them over and over.

Being a blogger is not difficult; being successful requires hard work. Countless individuals set up blogs everyday. They spend hours upon hours customizing them, and installing all sorts of gadgets and plugins. But what they lack is the determination, direction, and will. Over 90% of bloggers will generally give up their blogging hobby after just about a week or month.

If you’re someone who’s thrilled by the whole ‘blogging’ theory and would love to start and be successful, here’s a few tips that should REALLY help you improve your chances of being successful. Just remember though, there’s no barrier to entering the blogging world. But it’s dominated by a lot of very successful bloggers. So if you’re going to make a name, make sure you’re dedicated to doing it.

successful

1. Establish a purpose

Don’t just jump into the blogging world. Ask yourself WHY you want to start blogging. Is it for personal satisfaction? Is it to make money? Is it because your friends do the same? Or were you inspired by some popular blogger? Regardless of what your choice is, make sure you have a ‘purpose’ for blogging (even if it’s pointless). When you have a purpose, you naturally tend to work towards it and everything you do is a lot more systematic and organized.

2. Create a schedule

People tend to wander off their real aim when they don’t have a schedule to guide them. A schedule sets a deadline for a particular task and can help prevent some of the laziness that most of the people have in them naturally. Grab a piece of paper, and write down the date and what you plan to do, besides that date. Look at the schedule time and again and follow it like any other official timetable. You’ll get more work done 😉

3. Establish a direction

You’ve already got your purpose of blogging. Now ask yourself what you should blog about. You could be completely random and spontaneous, but you’ll lose direction very quickly and it won’t be long before blogging gets boring. So set yourself a direction. And follow that direction strictly. Plan out sequences of content that you would like to create and get them done.

4. Be creative

Monotonous blogging is not the best thing, really. Your aim should be to create content that you enjoy reading. Put simply, if you’re going to blog about something that does not relate with your interests, then you’ll only end up creating posts that are not interesting for your visitors, either. A blog can only get as interesting as the author wants to make it. Give your blog a ‘life’. Write about stuff you enjoy. Don’t consider blogging a ‘job’. Consider it a ‘hobby’.

5. Engage your readers

Interact and engage with your readers. It helps build a dedicated following. Try organizing competitions, etc regularly. Do regular Q&A sessions on your blog. Get to know your readers personally. Refer to their blogs (if it’s interesting and if they have one) from time to time. This not only helps build a regular following, but also compels your readers into promoting your blog. Word of mouth, blogging about it, etc.

6. Be unique

I’ve seen countless individuals simply copying other successful bloggers. Being inspired by successful bloggers is one thing. Blatantly copying them will get you nowhere. Put simply, be unique. Be yourself. Let your blog be a medium that communicates your personality to your readers. They don’t want another ‘Successful Joe’. They want ‘Unique Sam’. So give them that. When you blog as yourself, you blog naturally. And you tend to produce high quality content 🙂

7. Innovate, but not too much

Bloggers think it’s cool to implement/install every new plugin that is released. To be honest, this kind of attitude will only get your blog EXTREMELY messy. You don’t want that. You want your blog to be presentable. Something that calms your visitor. If the first thing a reader/visitor sees is a whole load of useless stuff being jammed on his face, he’ll be sure to click away and never come back. You don’t want that. User-friendly, That’s the keyword. Install only the necessary plugins, or those that enhance the user experience but without the overhead of the extra mess.

Conclusion

I mentioned this earlier, and I’ll say it again. Being a blogger is easy. Being successful requires hard work. So make sure you put in that extra hard work in your blog. All it takes is effort, dedication and will to do it. That’s how the pros do it. There’s no secret to it. Only dedication. So do you have any more tips that will help a blogger be successful? 1. Actually, by making post by ownself, we’re already unique since each other have different writing characteristics. Don’t let your characteristic is lose because following other blogger way to write. Just as said : Be yourself. You should be confident about it.

yeah definitely every one their own way of writing skill. we should be unique in all the always. the way of writing, choosing title, promoting, interaction with readers, right response to them these things will make a unique difference from others.

          1. Anyway, just to notice. Each person have it different characteristic with the other, which make them as unique. But not all characteristic is guarantee you to be success. For example, people who make article with melancholic personality characteristic…Do you think all reader love to read that kind of article? I’m sure mostly is not since we know a melancholic one will write it deeply and using many term…In this case, following other charateristic is not bad.

    1. Wow it’s so nice that this article can affecting you. Well, i’m also wanna try to make my blogging activity managed well, but what can i do? Sometime there is busy day of my college, and in other time, my sister oftenly annoying me by asking me to buy something on shop X, delivering something to mr.X, or something like that…which steal my blogging time 🙁
Should i make a schedule for night work? Because in night, i’ll free from my sister 😛

  1. I like the approach that you took. Your list of seven steps to become a better, more successful blogger is very good. For example, remaining consistent is a good thing because the audience is anticipating a blog post on schedule. It is not healthy to confuse them in this way if you can avoid it. Some bloggers will start out with a bang, posting everyday or two, and then the motivation and topics run out, causing a reduction in the number of posts and a confused or unhappy audience. I always say to under-promise and over-perform!

        1. That’s happen oftenly especially from newbie who didn’t aware yet that blogging is not that easy. We should educate them, that’s our task who experienced enough, even we can’t said we already success.

It’s remind me when i was newbie. Make “home business” blog with 10 article ready to be launched in one week. It’s full of spirit, but on 6th or 7th (i’m forgot the detail), i feel boring 😛

    1. So, from the first, we should state our update plan and consistence with it, right? Don’t force yourself in making tight schedule, if in the end, you feel can afford it. Your schedule also should be depend on the topic. F.e if your blog is about technology, you shold plan to make daily post, it’s different for if you make a movie review blog (where 1 post/2 days is OK).

Use PDCA Cycle to do your blog activity :
      – Plan what you do
      – Do what you planned
      – Check if there is any mistake/something need to be maintained?
      – Action again after make a correction

    1. Content is king is a quote which still become a key before doing anything 🙂
Yes, don’t install all things new, and also it’s imposibble since there is a hundred plug-in comes to market every year.

  2. Every blogger before starting out can have a purpose (whatever that may be) but in order to become successful (though could mean a lot of things depending on a blogger’s perspective of success), they must have the motivation to consistently work for their purpose. Otherwise, the blogging journey would be pointless and efforts futile.
.-= Mathdelane @Software Critics´s last blog ..Why AVG 9.0 Free Falls Short to Please? =-.

    1. And about motivation, as i said, the purpose itself is our best motivator. Approach the purpose with 2 ways :

      – Hell approach : Thinking something so sad and bad which will happen if you not reach that purpose. For exampe, your purpose is money and the goal is to get $100 in a month. If you not reach it, you’ll get your family angry, your friend leave you because you’re promise to treat them something with that $100, etc….

      – Heaven approach :The opposite. Think something good will happen IF ONLY you can realize your purpose. For example, if you get that $100, you can treat your friend and get them loyal, you can buy x and y, etc….

  3. As far as creating a schedule goes, you should definitely be consistent when posting so that your readers get used to your schedule. If you manage to get them used to it, you won’t even have to have any kind of subscription on your blog (of course it’s always good to have it just in case) but the users will come back on their own looking for good articles. Nice post Typhoon, thanks for sharing!
.-= Gordon´s last blog ..Branding Websites And Blogs =-.

    1. Even you can make a base of reader which loyal like that, i think subscription form still should be added (in purpose to make the subscription count is shown also). It’s needed when you want to monetize your blog since it’s become indicator of good blog/no.
.-= akira07´s last blog ..Make or Break – Website Review =-.

    1. I think successful blogger is not always old player or the one who experienced a long time blogging time. Because i find, there is a blogger which launch the blog for 4-5 month ago but now it’s already success. If i’m allowed, i will state the name.
.-= akira07´s last blog ..Make or Break – Website Review =-.

  4. Agree with all point. The list is seem like a 7 pilar for a blog. Make a purpose is the first thing we should do, and some people say that the purpose should be very specific. For example :”I make this blog to make fixed earning per month at least $xxx”. Or in other word, in this case, purpose = goals. There is a long term purpose and the short one.

That specific purpose can be reached if you’re consistence to do what you’re planned on schedule.
About direction, actually there is so many alternative direction can be choosen. Consider it one by one and choose the best.

Engage the reader is clearly important. About unique and innovative, it’s based on people since we know there is a people with less creativity :P, but with exercise their can do it.
.-= akira07´s last blog ..Make or Break – Website Review =-.

      1. I’m always agree for that statement. But it’s hard to find people like that nowadays. Even their say : Be consistent in blogging and with full spirit, you will automatically get opportunities for making money”, but i’m sure mostly of them will leave the blog if for a long time effort to build that blog (even with consistency and spirit), the blog can earn them a money.

It’s lie if people build niche blog but not for money as purpose (implisit or explicit). If their don’t want money, i’m sure their will prefer to make daily-life story blog.

  5. Innovating can really be harmful especially when you’re doing this too much yet, you’re not sure you’re doing this properly.

    Great post..

    1. Yes, as stated above, it will make your blog messy. And don’t forget about “user-friendly” things as Typhoon advice. Make innovation and apply it to your blog if only it have meaning and useful for a reader. If not, you’ll get :
Your blog messy –> reader feel uncomfortably –> reader leave your blog –> ruin of your blog
