Hundreds of new blogs are created daily and most of those newbie bloggers search for “Free” themes to use on their blogs. And most probably that theme could be the one sponsored by you which contains a backlink to your site from the theme footer.
Almost 10-15 new themes are available on Digitalpoint Forums for sponsorship. Most of the designers are well qualified in their work. But before sponsoring any wordpress theme, you must take a look at the following points:

You probably know what is article marketing and its benefits. But if you go on submitting your article to each and every article directory then it would be a painful job.
But now, with just one article, you could get Massive amount of backlinks. Thanks to the Autoblogging revolution for making this happen.
Most of the wordpress autoblogging plugins like WP Robot, Guest Blogger, WP-o-Matic while fetching articles for a particular keyword from article directory also puts the author box along with it(by default). Since, there had been a tremendous increase in autoblogs in past few months (due to various clickbank products); you can easily imagine how much backlinks you would get with this trick.
Note: Always try to submit your articles on article directories like EzineArticles, ArticlesBase and SooperArticles in order to take benefit of this method.

Quality Link building can bring you more results.
For example. a Single Link from DailyBlogTips.com Homepage will work 100 times better than 10 Theme Sponsoring.

hmm..$100 ? I think you made a bad deal.. Did you buy the whole theme sponsorship or one link on the theme?
Actually i did the following;
i bought one link for 100$ and another one for 20$ (two different themes) … lets see who will give the best value for money 😉
I can read other peoples advice on what and what not the do with sponsorships, but the best way to find out how it all works is to do it yourself.

Sponsoring a theme is perhaps a new rage that is catching on – those who are smart will exploit them quickly.
The sponsoring theme strategy is new to me, is that meaning that sponsor a sum of money for the theme and the theme owner will add our link to the footer, and whenever people download and use the theme, we will receive backlinks from there? Is that meaning that we don’t have full right on the theme?

actually, all the three methods can be used for getting links to deep pages not just the 3rd one..In 1st or 2nd method just change your main URL every time you are going on that method..simple…were you thinking something else?
I have been seriously considering purchasing a few themes and then adding my link in the future. It’s a great idea. I could probably design the themes myself too but purchasing themes would definitely save a lot of time and energy. I am a member of digital point so I will probably go there if I ever decide to. Unfortunately, there are a lot of scammers that you have to look out for. i.e. people taking a very old theme and trying to sell it new.
