This is a guest post by Brandon Connell who teaches you how to make money blogging at BrandonConnell.com.
I have been a madman over the past few months, as I discussed in my recent blog post about my guest posting activities which I used to lay all of my articles on the table.
I have written a few articles about how guest posting will increase your commentary and traffic. But what I didn’t cover was how you would benefit even further by guest posting on a previously published blog.

When you first start guest posting, you are focused on building traffic, back-links, and raising your Alexa Traffic Rank. You set sail trying to get as many guest posts on as many blogs as possible. But once that round is complete, it is time to establish yourself as a reoccurring power to be reckoned with. To do this, you need to analyze which blogs brought you the most traffic, new readers, or PageRank.
Your second round of guest articles should focus on a few select blogs from your first round. This will basically remind readers of that blog who you are, and drill your brand into their minds. When someone takes notice to a good article, they may bookmark that article for further reference later down the line. But some of them will not follow the link back to the guest authors main blog.
By posting a second time around, you are hoping to attract those missed readers and turn them into loyal readers of your own blog.
Once you establish your 2nd round, it’s time to move on to the 3rd which is the big blog lottery. What I mean by this is that you want to write a few articles that are nice and long, and very high quality. You would then focus your submissions to the huge players such as ProBlogger for example. Even the big blogs publish guest posts from lesser established bloggers. It’s just a matter of making your article stand out from the rest of the hundreds of articles they receive regularly.
By the time you have started your third round of guest submissions, you will have established yourself as a quality guest author. The big guys will be able to go and check out your previous material and see if you would be a good fit for their readers. That’s why it is important to not skip out on the 1st and 2nd rounds of guest blogging.
To get going in the great quest of guesting, check out a couple of good places that are dedicated to just that.

- BloggerLinkUp.com
- My forum on my blog (guest author link above)
You can also search various forums with a blogging category such as WebProWorld. Of course, many blogs that you do a Google search for that are in your niche most likely have a guest posting page on their blog with instructions for submission. If the blog you want to guest post on is lacking a dedicated page for it, that does not mean you cannot contact them and ask.
Go through the 3-round game-plan above and you will be one of the big guys in no time.
Do you guest post and revisit?
Hey Brandon,
Great advice you give there.
“By posting a second time around, you are hoping to attract those missed readers and turn them into loyal readers of your own blog.” I never thought of this. Many think of diversifying posts in as many blogs they can. But the point you mention is great. It will turn some of them into loyal readers. As repeated exposure does indeed work!

Thank you Nabeel. That is right. It is about putting your brand repeatedly in front of the same eyes. That’s why television commercials work so well.
Anything for quality traffic is certainly a good reason to keep on doing the method. This is also a great way in building solid backlinks as well as an expert reputation especially they are seeing you doing it the second time around 🙂
Exactly. And this is my second time here on SmartBloggerz 😉
“…you need to analyze which blogs brought you the most traffic, new readers, or PageRank.”
Curious how you figure who is and who isn’t passing PageRank?
“Your second round of guest articles should focus on a few select blogs from your first round. This will basically remind readers of that blog who you are, and drill your brand into their minds.”
Totally agree. I tend to pay more attention to folks I see around more than just 1 time.
You can determine that by seeing what their PR is, then checking to see if they are DoFollow with the link they are providing you. After that, you just assume you are receiving the PageRank. There are other factors to consider such as how long articles stay on the homepage, how long it takes for sub-pages to get PR, etc. But that’s really irrelevant when you are just trying to do a quick analysis.
How much time do you suggest between each post?
Hello Tracy. Consider the fact that the more articles that get in front of people in a short amount of time, the more readers will remember your name. I do think that a month apart would be considered the maximum time you want to leave open. If you could land posts only 2 days apart though, then you have accomplished something.
i also believe in guest posting at maximum 2-3 blogs at a regular interval….
this helps us make relations which is so important in this blogging world..people tend to post in different blogs thinking that this will bring them maximum traffic but traffic is not everything in blogosphere
Getting your articles in front of different audience is vital, but going back to those audiences is what makes you secure those readers for yourself.
Hey Brandon,
Another awesome post man. I really like the idea of doing Guest post on the same blog. Really fantastic work dude.
Retweeted, digg, stumble….. !!
Thanks for sharing this great Post. Keep up the great work.

Thank you Dev. Looking forward to seeing my 1st guest post live on your blog!
Great tips Brandon! I think guest blogging would even increase the reference traffic for you! As if a webmaster finds it useful you would be getting more guest for posting!
Other than this there would huge number of comments, so this means more interaction! But there is one thing that i would like to ask you Brandon – Do you think guest posting is more effective or using wordpress multiuser will be more effective if you consider traffic?
Hello Nick. Do you mean from a webmasters point of view? Either way can get you traffic. Just in different ways.
Well quality content is always good however sometimes webmasters can ban even such good articles jst suppposing it is spam (as the same user posts to many articles within quite short period of time.
I guess, but what webmaster would want to create that kind of bad relationship with someone who contributed to their blog? Just because someone submits a guest post doesn’t mean that they have to approve it.
Guest posting is the best way to build loyal readership in your niche. With guest posting you can achieve many goals such as branding, promotion, traffic and backlinks. High traffic blogs with high PR can give you all these things.
Thanks for the comment Asad.
@Brandon, I think your right – its all about making sure that the posts are carefully managed, time wise that is, and unfortunately that can be one of the hardest parts about commenting. Not everyone has the time every day to go through the comments and make sure everything flowing, but you are right though, keeping the days to around 2 is definitely a great practice.
Thanks Tyedee, time management is a part of blogging that people have to consider before they start. As per my ebook and articles, you have to be serious from the beginning and have to be able to have the time.
