I think you should not upgrade to VPS if your blog doesn’t have to handle around 1000 visitors a day. Web hosting like Hostgator really take care about customers. They never oversell their shared hosting plan so there’s no need to upgrade if your site isn’t around that figure 🙂 That’s just from my own research about VPS, so no offense here 🙂
With shared hosting, my blog started facing problem (lots of internal server errors, high memory usage, more and more php errors, site crash sometimes) as I needed more resources for my other projects and also the blog had some scripts running behind that required greater resource pool.

VPS cloud hosting is basically for online business websites, forums or those blogs which are huge in size. If you consider that your blog receive too much traffic daily and your current host is not able to fulfill the requirement, then surely you can consider going for the cheapest plan in vps cloud hosting or upgrade to better one if you think so.

I think you’ve made a right choice Sushant, you really do require this as your traffic is on the rise and your going to experience constant spikes. Shared hosting too is good enough if you go for a good host, but its better to shift before you start getting thousands of visitors.
As with all types of hosting it depends on what your site needs. For bloggers, in particular, cloud hosting can be a great solution. You may not consistently have a high amount of traffic (so it’s not worth paying for dedicated hosting) but you may have the odd post the drives a significant amount of traffic (so shared hosting is not adequate).
