“How To Get More Traffic To My Website” has got to be the biggest question of today’s internet age amongst webmasters.
Whether you are a large corporate or an in-house firm, traffic is the need of the day. Most of the online businesses fail due to lack of adequete traffic, but you can avoid this by following sound internet marketing techniques.
Here are a few methods you can use to increase your website traffic…

1. Optimize Your Website
If you already have a decent site up and running but you are not getting any traffic, the first thing you can try is to rank in the SERPs. Start off with some keyword research, find a decently searched keyword with moderate competition and optimize your site for that particular keyword.
After you are finished with the on-page optimization, try your hands on some link building. Increase the number of inbound links to your website, submit to authoritative directories, write some articles on your field of expertise and submit them to popular article directories, get active on popular forums in your niche, leave out useful comments on related popular blogs, exchange a few links with trusted sites related to your niche and see if you can rank within the top 10 for your targeted keyword.
NOTE: Ranking in the SERPs takes time, it can be 3-6 or even 12 months, depending on the level of competition and the aggressiveness of your link building campaign, so be patient.
2. Start Blogging
It is possible that you get some traffic, but you are stuck without any growth due to low amount of traffic. If that is the case, start a blog and start writing. Don’t be afraid to spill out a few secrets, let your visitors know the level of expertise you have in your niche. Try to hold your current traffic by blogging about what your users require, this will help them bring more traffic to your site by referring you to their friends and family.
Post about something your users would want to read, ask yourself a few questions like “What answers could I be looking for as a visitor”, and try to answer them in your blog post. Keep your style of writing professional, to the point, yet enjoyable to read.
3. Get Active On Social Media sites
Register your company profile on sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc. These sites are now seen more as a brand management tool than anything else. Due to the authority of these sites, you have a good chance of ranking for your company name with your profile on these sites. You can also use your keywords here to have a better chance of ranking in the SERPs with these profiles.
Provide a direct link on your homepage to your social profiles so that your visitors can follow you there. Engage your visitors, let them know about you, your company, upcoming products, events, news and changes in your niche. Promote your blog posts on your social media profiles. Communicating via social media gets you a great opportunity in converting your visitors into real-time customers.
4. Guest Blogging On Popular Sites
Guest blogging is gaining in popularity and with platforms like MyBlogGuest people are getting a direct exposure with blogs interested in guest posting. More and more blogs have now started accepting guest posts. Guest blogging can give you the exposure you need, your level of expertise and knowledge gets exposed to a broader range of traffic. Guest blogging can turn out to be decisive factor for your blog in terms of traffic and links.
Try to find out blogs within your niche that accept guest posts, write an informative post for them in return for a link to your website. This way, you not only get traffic but also free inbound links. The real plus point of this is that if your posts gets published on popular blogs people treat you as an authority in your area of expertise.
5. Give Something Out For Free
Give out something for free, it can be anything from a free coupon, product, service or advice. Just don’t be afraid of giving things out for free occasionally, because this will bring more people to your site, everyone loves the idea of something being free so it will result in more and more amount of traffic. The people you give out to free will refer you to their friends and family. You can ask them to write a review on their site about your products or services; they will be happy to help.
NOTE: You do get traffic from giving out things for free but its upto you to hold on to this traffic.
6. Build A PPC Campaign
All of the mentioned above can take you some time to get traffic, but if you are looking for traffic instantly sign up with popular Pay Per Click programs with popular search engines like Google for Google AdWords, Yahoo Sitematch or even with Facebook. It only takes a few minutes to set up a PPC campaign with these services and you will start getting traffic immediately but remember your site needs to be good enough to convert this traffic into sales, so make sure that you are ready to receive the traffic.
CONCLUSION
For people to appreciate you, you need to build something so useful that you are able to hold onto whatever traffic you recieve. So first make your site so useful that those once visit you come back to you for more.
Remember behind every successful site there is some useful content.
So roll up your sleeves and start working, choose the best marketing technique that you find suitable for you and get the traffic flowing to you.

Awesome tips. These should be used together rather than picking one of them. However, when I say to use them all, I want to be clear. What I mean is that you need to master one technique first because you start experimenting with a new traffic generation technique.
If you start with guest blogging for example, make sure to become very good at it, and give away your best content. When you have a couple of blogs that drive you traffic on demand, try experimenting with ppc or another technique.
The worst thing a beginner can do is not having a plan, and try to do it all at the same time.

Hi Franck,
You are absolutely right, one should try focus on one thing before jumping onto the other. If you are working alone for your website going one by one would be better. But if you have a whole team in place, you can get the job done simultaneously.
Thanks for your great post. I agree that all of your suggestions are good for those who want to have an increase in website traffic. In the case of blogging, however, you have to make sure that the article is something of value for the readers.
Great overview, I’ve found writing a high quality blog posts and then creating a youtube video about the same topic of my post, but with slightly different content. If you create good enough content in your videos it is crazy the traffic you can get from youtube. Best of all that traffic comes right to your high quality blog post on the same topic. It is a great first impression…
Hi Evan,
Yes you are right videos can be very powerful way of getting traffic to your website. But it needs to be done efficiently.
Hi Akash,
I definitely agree with the tips you mentioned, especially on the part on getting active on social media sites. I’ve found a lot of new websites just shared by my friends on Twitter and on Facebook. It’s simple and fun to do, and probably the best part about it is it’s free!
Hi Felicia,
Yes social media can be a lot of fun to do, and yet very efficient in driving huge amount of traffic once you have created a large number of fan base.
To be honest, author of this article mentioned all facts that are known from before (for everyone who regularly follow this type of blogs), but tips are very useful. In this days, value of great unique content is great in eyes of search engines, like never before. Because that I suggest all bloggers to read this tips twice and start with implementation on their blogs.
Thanks for the nice comments Jeff. I know that these are not new for the people who remain very active reading popular blog resources but there always new people to learn it.
One of the most important thing is to be authentic for visitors. I haven’t try to drive traffic by providing some free stuff in my site. It seems to be a smart way.
Being active on social networking sites is definitely a must it gives so much traffic and also keeps your readers updated all the time. In my opinion the best thing to give out free is knowledge and interesting articles. For PPC Campaign I don’t really like AdWords, I’ve tried it once, it didn’t work out. I prefer setting up banners on different high traffic websites.
Hi Michael,
Whatever works for you you should use that technique. Its great that banners help you. I had much experience with PPC that’s why I included them.
Absolutely agree with you that something to give out for free could be knowledge, it does work out pretty well.
I try to concentrate on Google as much as possible. Since my niche isn’t the most difficult it’s easier for me to get views from search engines. A small seo work, a bit of Google trends research and there you have it, a good page rank and a decent amount of visitors every day. Is not much but is a start.
Hi Michael,
I am always up for SEO, the best traffic you can get is from organic results from the search engines. I agree to you on that, if you are trying SEO for smaller niches and getting the results that’s good once you are established you can aim higher.
You’re totally right. Choosing an in demand niche plus a little bit of SEO can absolutely boost your earning potential. In that way, you could actually use similar process too once you’ve proved that your strategy is successful.
I agree with the free stuffs and it does really work. It’s like a traffic magnet whenever someone read FREE.
Nice article. I especially have had good experience with point 3 and 5. Creating a Facebook fanpage for a bigger blog of mine clearly increased the amount of returning visitors. Also it’s good for your ranking if your site gets “liked”.
One thing also to get more traffic always reply back when someone place a comment on your blog asking for some details and or clarification of your post. In that way they will have a perception that the webmasters is active in helping their readers.
