If you’re going to be a successful blogger, one important point to keep in mind is that you should update your blog regularly. By regular, I simply mean that you should define a schedule and STICK to that schedule. Do NOT wander off that schedule, ever.
But, that’s difficult, right? Why?
The major reason why people tend to lose interest midway through their blogging is because they start out wrongly. They decided to blog about something that was not really their point of interest. So, primary rule to success is – Blog about what you love!
Here I share 4 reasons why you should blog regularly:
A Regular Schedule Turns Readers Into ‘Loyal Readers‘
The idea is pretty simple. When you plan and stick to a schedule, your readers get used to that schedule. Eventually, they don’t have to rely on the blog feeds either. As long as they are well aware of your posting schedule, they’ll generally visit your blog themselves on days when they expect you to update the blog. Finding fresh content gives them a reason to keep coming back!
You Lose Traffic When You Deviate
Consider the point above. When loyal readers re-visit your blog, they do so with the expectation of reading something new. If you regularly SKIP your scheduled posting times and neglect the entire blogging area, then these visitors will gradually get disappointed. They won’t be able to keep track of your blog updates and quite a few might simply stop visiting you. This generally leads to a decline in traffic (and a sharp decline, mind that) which is the last thing you want if you’re aiming to be a successful blogger.
Regular Updates = Higher Search Engine Positions
Obviously, Search engines want content. They love content. Everytime they visit your blog, they’ll scrape it for new content. If they find it, they index it. And when they index it, you have more pages indexed in a particular search engine. That, in turn, means you have more chances of people visiting your blog when they’re searching for something, as with the addition of each new blog post, you basically widen the scope of topics you cover. And the more pages and quality posts you have indexed, you get more authority in the search engines. Anyone who has a basic idea of success, would not disagree with this post!
Regular Updates Get You More Backlinks
Don’t forget that quite a few of your readers are also bloggers(in most of the niches). And when you regularly update your blog, every once in a while they’ll like something you posted and link back to you from their own blogs. What does this offer you? Free backlinks! Who would not want free backlinks? All it takes is some time to stay true to your schedule and you get so many benefits without having to actually work hard for them.
Conclusion
There’s countless advantages of regularly updating your blog. More traffic (which leads to more revenue), more exposure, you establish yourself as a professional in your blogging niche, etc. Of course, it all requires you to stick to your schedule. And if you’re short on time, then plan a schedule that does not require too much time, but can still effectively keep your blog fresh!

• regular • regularly • why is it important to post to a blog regularly
I strongly agree with you that updating our blog regularly could bring countless advantage, but the problem is that sometimes we have limited time in updating the blog. However, I try to update my blog once 2-3 days since I have few blogs and several websites need to be managed. Anyway, I'll try to update my blog in daily basis in coming day, that's one of my goal in 2010.
P/S : Not really like your commenting management option, I still prefer the original wordpress comment section. Also, when I tried to reply comment as a threaded comment, it shows "Null" and I couldn't be able to add my comment.
Best Regards,
Lee
Oh..Sad to know about that trouble you have faced on the blog. I think it happened because I was testing a plugin “FCKeditor”. The reason I was testing it becasue the wordpress inbuilt Ckeditor is not working while editing “pages”.
But just now, I have disabled it and I think it wopn’t give any more problem 😉
Yea, everything is fine now, if not I wouldn’t be able to write this comment. Just test it for you. 😉
I have been trying to make regular updates but it is really hard if you have full time job and want to blog about something that is time consuming (Web Development in my case). But soon some things in my life are going to change and I hope to have enough time for regular updates. So I will have a huge traffic soon… 😛
Oh, It’s a great trouble to handle a blog as well as work a in a full time job. I know how hard it is because same is the case with me as a student.
Recently, Melvin made a guest post “Time Management For Bloggers And Marketers“. In that he explained importance of time and how you can manage it for 3 different categories of people.
Typhoon…You can’t say it more better. One of my goals is to blog regularly this year. I started full blogging last year and decided to step up this year. I have written scheduled post but internet connectivity limits my posting regularly. I have made about 5 post this year. I only hope to get better.
Thanks for this
Hi,
Maybe you need my plugin then. If you’re interested let’s talk. It would be bad netiquette to do so on this blog.
Nope Billy, I won’t bother if you help readers on this blog through commenting in any way.
But @freeblogger, wordpress have already inbuilt feature for scheduling post, then why don’t you use it?
A good idea would be to survey readers on how often they like to get new updates.

That’s a nice concept. But didn’t saw anyone trying it. Have you seen some blogger using that idea of surveying?
Couldn’t agree more on the regular updates. Lately I’ve been falling behind, and if no one else says anything, my mother does. *shame*

I blog on a daily basis, because it keeps me readers coming back for more! It also builds authority for my site
I stopped posting at my blog once, and i noticed that 25% of my rss subscribers left due to lack of updates.
Ya, that’s another reason you shoul try blogging regularly or at your schedule. I recently wrote an article – “Why Your Feed Readers May Think To Unsubscribe?”
In that, I included a same reason “You or Your Blog is very Inconsistent” and many people agreed to that in the comments.
I think these are great tips. I have a question though. What type of schedule, as in how often should a blogger post? (every day every other day)

It’s your own will and also how your niche demands. As a new blogger, in most of the niches, you should try updating your blog atleast 4 times a week.
Really satisfied with your views Sushant. Regular posting is the key and also most difficult task to maintain if you want to become a successful blogger.
That’s right Anil. If you maintain it then you will surely see yourself climbing the stairs of becoming a successful blogger.
Thanks for your Comment 🙂
Couldn’t agree more!
I post every 2 days (one day I post, the next day I don’t), and in the summer I didn’t stick to that schedule. I found I lost about half of my traffic, but as soon as I maintained a good schedule it rose back up again.

Basically, when you hault your schedule for a longer time, you will most probably see your feed readers visitng your blog on your recent update made just after the long break. And when you slowly start picking up the pace, the nthey will become regular visitor again and even traffic from other sources like Twitter or other social bookmarkign sites will rose..
