Promotion is the only way to keep a blog alive. It is always said that good content is nothing without traffic. The quality of the content does matter but if nobody come to your blog, what is the use of that content. It will not get the laurels it deserves and this is sure to discourage you.

90% of the bloggers use free methods of promoting which sometimes work and sometimes does not.

But ask any seasoned blogger about the best way to promote a blog without spending a single penny and the most common answers you will hear are COMMENTING and GUEST BLOGGING.

These are the most used methods and often leave us with a debate on which is the best among the two. Both have its advantages and I am trying to find out the best between these two based on two common metrics.

Each and everyone who owns a blog definitely wants to build an audience towards the brand of their own. And of course, we want to spread it and have it exposed to as much people as possible. Since millions of new blogs are created every day, it’s an uphill battle for us, bloggers to spread our own and stand out from the rest.

But we should never get worried. Obviously most of the blogs are just junk blogs, either blogs who are just created for SEO benefits or blogs that are created by inexperienced bloggers. Overall we still have a good chance of getting recognized, acquiring new readers and reaping good benefits for spreading our brand.

Generating traffic to your blog, whether new or old, is one task most webmasters are unable to do in the right way and are still struggling in traffic generation. They often try the wrong techniques and then get disappointed by lack of results. This is one of the reasons why so many bloggers give up so quick.

However, the point is… Generating traffic to your blog is amongst the easiest task you’ll ever come across. All it takes is a bit of reading on the internet and then adding your own creativity and mixing it. And of course, do it with dedication. I guess all of you were there at the time when the internet had no search engines, I was also there at that time, but too small to use the web. I still remember my mother having a list of excel sheets which were filled with web pages filed under particular categories, she would get those sheets from her friends and give it to some other of her friends.

One sheet would have up to 200 web pages and within a year a good quality directory would make it to 1000’s of netizens and the 200 web pages there would get some good targeted traffic for free. Well, that was back then when no one ever thought of a search engine, today search engines have revolutionized the web and we cant imagine a day with Google or Yahoo.

According to Technorati, millions of blogs gets abandoned just after their launch that  means only few people visits them just because the blog owners don’t perform blog promotion properly.
